Mesopotamian Clash

Heya, starting to wrap up a great Mesopotamian game, and think i'd like to start another. I sadly didn't begin that first game, but rather jumped in the middle, so I'd like to play one all the way through.

Anyone interested? I'd like a decent pace, although the advantage of the scenario is it moves very very fast, so you don't have to wait nearly as long to get into things ...

I'd take the Hittites, the Phoenicians, or the Babylonians, in that order. But i'm not that picky, so just post that you're interested and jump on in. :)

It'll probably be played at Monarch difficulty. For all that matters. We'd follow "common sense" rules, with not as strict as Iron Civer limits on contact (ie, i'd say anything goes as long as you're not lying outright in game, so if you're allied with someone you shouldn't be at 'war' with them at any point during that alliance, and the other way around), and "on your honour" not to use any exploits. Basically, a fun game, not too many rules. (Maybe Conmcb will play! :p )

Actually I think Beta as Egypt has to start the game for us. You can't begin Conquest PBEMs unless you're the first nation in line and in this case it's Egypt. We ran into that when I began the Grand Passage PBEM since Spain is always the first player in the Age of Discovery games.

i'm not sure where the babs go. Hmm. I know the Hittites are the last ones (i'm hittites in the current game), and ... hmm, i think the babs are 3rd in line? Phoenecians then Sumerians then Hittites, and i seem to recall mycenae being 4th? Maybe egypt-medea-babylon?

Ahh, not bad then, i got it close to right ;)

Hmm, in terms of playtimes, i know that Witt plays all the time, Beta plays lateish or earlyish, Soltz plays lateish, Dauphin i haven't a clue... I play earlyish or evenings, con plays whenever Italians are awake this month and then after me usually, and Rhoth, you play sort of whenever i guess, but you before beta works well.

IE, unless Dauphin plays only in the middle of the afternoon (US CDT), we're golden. Even then, we're ok, as I will just play a turn at 7pm or so then. :)

Something like:
Me- 5am
Con-7-8am
Rhoth-sometime during the day
Beta- after Rhoth, evening
Wittlich-sometime during the evening
Soltz - late night
Dauphin - ? Maybe at night, maybe in the day
Me - either 5am, starting the sequence over, or 7pm, meaning con and rhoth hopefully play quickly thereafter ;)

BTW, rhoth, don't try playing your strategy against (good) AIs. I tried it, and got slaughtered, when after ONE wonder was completed, science just ahead of the others, and I had enough military to protect me from 2 enemies ... 4 of the 6 comps ganged up on me :) Dang AIs pay better attention to the VP count than humans :(

Heh, I played my strategy with the Phoenicians on emperor level and kicked booty with it. It's a good strategy...as shown in the other game. ;) I think Beta will be looking out for a repeat of my first game strategy in this one though. He might even take it and turn it on its head and take out those pesky Phoenicians. :cute:

By the way, I play in the early to late evening (6-10pm), Pacific Time. And IIRC Dauphin is an Aussie.

I would think it would be more natural for Beta to play before Rhoth. he is eastern time and Rhoth is one of those fruity guys from California who is on Pacific time and plays late in the evening usually.

Im only in Italy until the 25th so dont let that determine a play order if thats what we are actually talking about.

Although Im seriously considering coming back here for about 5 months, but if that happens Ill have to sell off a bunch of my PBEM's.

On weekdays I tend to play 1900 - 2300 (GMT). I can conceivably play turns around 7am GMT if it fits in to greatly improved turn rotation.

Weekends would tend to be much more frequent.

I knew what you meant :) But, i meant it didn't work for me, at a level slightly above where i usually play and win regularly. :)

Anyways, the play order issue is a non-issue: We are stuck with the order we have, because you can't change the order of the civs, if i recall correctly. I was just observing that I think it may go well. :)

I've not played this scenario before, so I thought I'd have a propwe look at it before the game starts. One question that strikes me...

What is the benefit of the Hittite's UU? I mean, they cost as much and require the same basic resource as Horseman, are less manouvreable on account of being wheeled, and require research of an unneccessary technology. Seems rather pointless to me.

Yeh, i'm the hittites in the other game and I haven't a clue what the point is. I guess it's a decently able-to-start-golden-age unit, but i can't figure its real utility. :)

Oh sure now you tell me...after I pick the Hittites. ;) I've never played them in this scenario so I figured since my first choice of Sumeria was already taken I'd try them out. Oh well.

The Hittites are probably one of two or three civs in this scenario intended for human play in the SP game. Them, the Phoenicians, and the Sumerians i'd think. Maybe babylon, who knows. The Hittites have the best land area by far, and the most resources -- if it's a regular game and not a VP game, they win every time. But, they have the cruddiest UU, and they don't have as good of a combination of traits as the sumerians or the phoenicians or the babylonians, plus they don't have as quick-growing of an area -- ie, whereas you had some easy 6-8 size cities as Phoenicia, the hittites take a bit longer to get started. :) (At least from my experience, playing this a few times in SP.)

Dauphin, I think that if you manage to play turns at 7am GMT, we could hit 1/day. Soltz plays late US time ,which means a few hours before 7am GMT usually (4-5am gmt), and I can play at 6am US-time, so a few hours after that. Once con comes back from italy, con-rhoth-beta-wittlich should work out ok in the evening, i think? and then it's just up to me to get con the save :)
