Welcome to a modern land of heavy warfare.

We have a standard sized map, accelerated production and conquest victory

a few modifications have been addded to the game through the editor

Also each player gets a starter pack consisting of...

- a metropolis of 20 pop and 130 culture
- also 2 cities of 7 pop and 10 culture
- and 2 towns of 3 pop and 10 culture
- all with some good basic infrastructure - including airports
- all tiles in the zone have rail and irrigation, mountains and hills mined

also included in the starter pack...

- 10 settlers
- 10 workers
- 10 tanks
- 10 fighters
- 5 bombers
- 2 armies
- some goody huts
- some barbarians
- a few more barbarians
- traces of once fine civilizations
- and a few more barbarians
- it would not let me plant barbarian airports loaded with stealth fighters :(
- a for those civs that share the same land mass a few obstacles between each other ;)

and for Maverick and his mates...

- 10 jet fighters

and for all great Rio's... somewhere to land when out and about :)

- 2 carriers

and their escorts...

- 4 destroyers

Paddy - Australia

Chrisius - England

Bongo - Germany

Beta - Aztec

let the party begin :cool:

Great start Paddy.

Sorry guys. I was away for the weekend - and got back last evening. I had a pile of saves to work through - and when I got to this one - I realized it was not a 5 minute affair, as is the case with many early games.

Playing now - well - studying it actually - and will forward it on shortly.

Recieved several hours ago. Won't be playing until later so I thought this was an appropriate moment to post some 'nice' pics

As some of you already know, I work in an IT-department. One of the benefits is unlimited access to faulty computer equipment. Normally we just destroy/throw away old and failed HDs but this time I seized some of them for a morning of clean mindless fun :D

The following pics show what a harddisk looks like after I put 15 rounds of .22LR ammunition into it.

The first pic is of my desk after I dismantled the HD...lots of little pieces...

bongo
September 21, 2004, 09:03
The top cover, from the outside. Note how the cover actually stopped many bullets

bongo
September 21, 2004, 09:04
The top cover, the inside this time.

Note how one of the bumps were made from the inside out after I shot at the 'back' of the drive.

bongo
September 21, 2004, 09:08
The bottom of the disk. I removed the circutry after the shooting. Only shot 5 rounds from this side, my favourite is clearly the one that destroyed the 'warranty void if label removed' label

Much of the grey stuff is lead residue from the bullets that hit the engine housing, which appearantly is the toughest spot on the drive.

bongo
September 21, 2004, 09:09
At last the platter and engine. No need to worry about head crashes anymore :p

bongo
September 21, 2004, 09:16
At last, a close up of the platter and 3 impacts. The right ones suffered direct hits as the top cover ruptured when the bullets hit close to the engine. The left crater was never touched by lead, but the cover stretched upon impact and damaged the platter nonetheless.

BTW - one thing I do not recall us discussing is the use of nuclear weapons. How about we continue without nukes - tactical and ICBM's - thus making it more of a game of strategy and tactics - and leading to greater use of the modern weapons we have our disposal.

The question is - do I load this puppy - or re-arm with more conventional armaments.

Save recieved but not played...

The reconstruction of my house has entered a very intense period. Basically, the carpenters are almost done placing wood panels on the outside. These panels has to be painted first and they have been kind enough to leave the scaffolding in place a couple of days longer so I can paint them. Saves me a lot of time and effort *not* having to paint while hanging in a ladder... Of course, this eats into my civvin big-time. So if you think I have been somewhat less attentive lately there's the explanation.

Bongo - is the new computer getting closer....?? :)

If not, maybe we can ship you one via Aztec military air freight.

Yeah, a new comp would be fine. :(

Actually, I pulled my comp out of the basement and set it up yesterday, today, after installing all updates etc the HD crashed. Fcuk, BIG FCUK, BIG BIG BIG FCUK

I don't think I will lose *data* as I made backups of most things important before packing it away, but reinstalling will be a pain in the ass, as always :(

Turned out the disk is not completely dead, if I leave it off for a while it starts up OK and runs for maybe 10-15 minutes.

Hoping for a thermal solution I moved the disk to the windowpost and opened the window and the cold air(around freezing point here) was able to keep it running for a full hour :)

Still need to get a replacement though, think I should call dell later, the disk should be well inside the warranty period...
