This is a smax game between Flubber and Chaos Theory

Players, in turn order, are:

Gaians
Morgan
Angels

(played by Flubber)

and

Peacekeepers
CyCon
Drones

(played by Chaos Theory)

No AI. Transcend level

Large map, 50% to 70% water, average everything, spoils off, directed research, all victory conditions on

The 2102 turn has been sent to Flubber (for some reason I couldn't start it in 2100 this time, to get the 2101 after setting passwords)

Good luck to you both - and enjoy

G.

Will be playing it in ~4 hours

Flubber
June 17, 2004, 09:17
No problem-- and actually no hurry

I play early-- as in before 6 am and late-- maybe as early as 6pm but often closer to 10 or 11-- all times Mountain time

Weekends-- sometimes lots and sometimes a little but I always make an effort to get on once to play any shorter turns

Chaos Theory
June 17, 2004, 10:27
I play around 11:30 and 16:30 CDT during the week, so it looks like we'll have a consistent 1 turn/day rate.

Flubber
June 17, 2004, 12:17
Oh well-- our time zones are similar but I am a before and after the workday type while you are a lunch and supper break type

Chaos Theory
June 17, 2004, 12:49
The reason for my odd times is that I have no internet access at home right now, so to play I need to get the turn at work, take it home, play it, and bring it back. Hence lunch and dinner. If/when I can get internet access at home, my turns could be more frequent. Oh well.

2103 -> Flubber

Check the attachment to make sure it's not winmail.dat or some other garbage.

Flubber

AS my times suggest, I only play at home before and after work and around the demands of wife and child. Also while I can peek in here, I cannot access any email accounts other than those of this company ( I have to use my blackberry for my employers email system).

Bottom line is I won't even see your email until I get home

The internet service provider screwed up. As a consequence, I had to hassle with a false bill for some weeks and I will not be patronizing the provider in the future. I'll also need to clean the mark from my credit record.

In the news tonight .. .

an unarmed band of colonists successfully resisted an apparent attack from what they characterized as a "roiling mass of worms". A few colonists experienced headaches and one died from what scientists are calling a "psionic attack". Jamie Welland, credited with saving the colony by tipping a barrell of salted beef in their path, said " I remember the stories of slugs on earth shrivelling up when touched with a little salt. I don't know what made me think of that here . .. you could see them in your head before they were ever in sight. My head hurt and all I could picture was worms coming in and out of my nose and ears. It was all I could do to move".

The MInistry of Defence immediately labelled these creatures "mindworms" and advises that they are to be considered dangerous. The Ministry of Information is reviewing their databases for information on psionic attack and will begin offering briefings on possible counter-measures

Had TWO reloads:
1st time, the password box didn't form properly. I backed out and killed programs, then reloaded
2nd time, got as far as Domai, then I discovered a whole new world of errors. Anyone hear of a fatal exception 0D in module FFFF:0000FFFF?
My comp died again, but I didn't get to the turn that time. I guess it didn't give me enough errors last crash.
Finally, I played the turn normally. Nothing variable happened to the point that I got in previous plays.

Being accustomed to TCP/IP multiplayer, it's very annoying to not have a direct record of what happens to you on others' turns. Fortunately, this time it's abundantly obvious.

The downside of head-to-head: no possibility of diplomacy
The upside: no worries about diplomacy

Flubber
June 29, 2004, 00:40
2122 on to chaos

No I don't know those errors

I agree that the downside of PBEM is not seeing the interplay of units.I hate to think that someone has say flown across my territory without my having an opportunity to see that they did it

Diplomacy in a head to head --ahahahah-- not much point in pretending to be friends. When I saw an empty base, I figured I could set you back a little-- calling you up and talking about it seemed to be of no point-- whats good too is that we can't atrocity willy nilly since atrocities will have a trade cost

To avenge the fallen peacekeepers, one enterprising peace-loving city trained a bunch of children to run at Data Angels with pointy sticks. After a fierce battle, the pointy sticks emerged victorious over the salvaged and totally unreliable unity mining laser the Data Angels hacked together.

To commemorate these events, and the fallen peacekeeper soldiers, a bureaucratic holiday is in order. That's right, elections!

The candidates are:
Brother Lal of the noble Peacekeepers
Chief Scoundral Morgan of Morgan Industries

The current votes are:
45 for Brother Lal
0 for Chief Scoundral Morgan

Flubber
July 21, 2004, 17:35
The elections was won by lal 45-41 but was under a cloud of allegations of Ballot stuffing in the peacekeeper districts. This was denied by Lal but an independent tally indicates that there were twice as many ballots cast as the PKs have citizens.

Do you mean patched as far as SMAX, or Windows? I'm probably missing some patches for Windows. However, it has been my experience that Windows becomes less stable the longer it has been since installation. Furthermore, I was using a poorly-behaved program through yesterday. Having failed to receive sufficient technical support for it, I am discontinuing its use. Hopefully my computer will crash less in the future.

Oh and in the news-- The Morgans are pleased to announce the planned unveiling of the Planetary Energy Grid in 2164. A spokesman stated "we had our scientists research in some totally new areas and one of their discoveries will allow our energy production to grow by 50%. We see this as a huge boon as we begin wholesale arms purchases."

2164 -> Flubber

Not to be outdone, the Free Drones have announced the future opening of their very own Cloudbase Academy. The Grand Opening will be in late 2164, a whopping 52 years earlier than originally scheduled! Unfortunately, despite its name, we will not be able to found bases in the clouds, limiting expansion to a mere two dimensions.

Please resend-- no hurry since I won't get back to it until tonight but I didn't see this as about 7 hours after you posted you sent it. It might show up later or be stuck in email limbo but a resend should ensure I get it

Hey guys!
I am from the other game with the same scenario - Googlie set us up for your scenario also:

binTravkin:
Gaia
Morgan,
Angels
(The Flubber's factions)

and

Hercules
PK's
CyCon
Drones
(The Chaos Theory's factions)

We've got the game till 2125 and now Hercules is absent for a moment..

I'd very much like how you're doing!
If it's not hard I'd like to see your povergraph and the "who's best at" table (but not the map to be fair!)..

Do you like this scenario?
I'm just loving it!:D

As you can see, it's a pretty interesting game. All 5 of the categories (besides overall) on the Who's Who are occupied by different factions at the moment.

Current populations (since these are public knowledge):
Lal 42; Aki 12; Domai 68; Dee 25; Morgan 66; Roze 27

Ya -- the variance is part of the nature of a 5 faction game-- I think its about to get plenty interesting-- Chaos's drone faction in particular seems to be expanding impressively

You sent me your turn instead of mine.

Please continue sending my turns to my umr.edu address even if I send mine from Yahoo - I'll notice the turns sooner, but I have some trouble sending mail from that address.

Yep, that's my turn.

I had assumed the Empath Guild was off-liimits, but can't find anything stating that's actually the case. For what it's worth, I've had the ability to build it for at least 10 years, but then you assumed no governorship. You deserve infiltration after all this time anyway.

As a gift to accompany the Empath Guild, some of my notes, from 2129 (when I started taking them) through 2145. I was a bit antsy about giving them to you when you didn't even have infiltrator information, but now it's not such a big deal.

I'll get to actually playing the turn tomorrow or the day after.

2165 -> Flubber

The Free Drones celebrated the completion of the Cloudbase Academy this year. But wait, there's more! Foreman Domai has immediately ordered completion of a Cyborg Factory. These two grand projects are expected to complement each other particularly well in the realm of airborne defense.

Incidentally, I was surprised to see that foil probe teams can probe land units and take them over. I tested this quickly in the scenario editor, just to make sure I had properly interpreted what I saw in my turn, and there it was, something I never knew you could do. I wonder if land probe teams can probe sea units...
