Store/Amazon purchase = free ApolytonPLUS month

It's simple: we give you or friend of yours a free month of ApolytonPLUS for every purchase you make from:
- The Apolyton Store
- The Amazon stores in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France and Germany

The process is easy:
a) make the purchase through the links listed above
b) contact us with the following details: full name(only for Apolyton Store purchases), date, item(s) you bought. Dont forget to tell us if you want to add your free month to your existing subscription or if (especially if you're a Lifetime member) you want to make it a gift to a friend.

Note: Non-members can take advantage of this offer as well!

/me sighs.

Sure, I make a bunch of purchases through the 'poly Amazon link and now we start getting other rewards. :bored:

Oh well, it's much appreciated to recognize they whole buying from Amazon thing... especially since sometimes I just buy from Amazon to help 'poly out when I might have gotten a better deal elsewhere (like with the upcomming Smallville Season 1 purchase for the wife... shhh... it's supposed to be a surprise.) ;)

PM link/new PM indicator

A new ApolytonPLUS benefit: a link directly to your private messages on the top menu of forum pages. It has the following features:

- Shows number of messages since last visit and unread messages.
- When you dont have any unread messages it will send you to your main pm page
- When you have unread messages the link sends to most recent unread pm

Just a suggestion:

Could the first number in the pm line be the number of unread pms, while the second one to be the number of new pms since last visit?

That's how I read it now, and gets "annoyed" when I read: "pm (1/0)" as I've got one unread pm...

... just a suggestion... :)

And I guess I have to get used to it... recieved a pm 3 hours ago, didn't notice it before now... but without this thing I probably wouldn't have seen the pm before I was going to send a pm myself :cute:

DarkCloud
June 21, 2004, 21:55
great feature! I second ADG's statement about this making it a lot easier to access pm's ;) Also, it seems as though flood control for PM's was turned down, is this an ApolytonPlus feature, or did I just not notice it before. I remember it usted to take 90 seconds to be able to send a PM... now the flood seems to be less than 60 seconds.

I get this message when I attempt to sign up the program. I know it has something to do with the fact that I have mini-mod powers in the C3CISDG private forum. Can I get a bit of help? :)

This is the news & support thread for Apolyton Plus, the payed account system for this website. :) Not for Civ3, the game created by Firaxis.

If you're looking for updates to the actual Civ3 software (or its expansions) click on the "Civ3 Patch Center" link on the Apolyton Civ3 News Page (http://apolyton.net/civ3/). Even if you were POLYplus you are asking for technical support for Civ3, and Mark is the admin of this Civ3 forum. He has nothing to do with the game, besides playing it, and running this site. If you have an issue you have to raise it with Firaxis, not Mark.

Alternatively post about your experiences in the Civ3 forum and maybe some Civ3 players will be able to help you.

Again, thanks. The way the Civ empire has changed hands since the release of Civ1, I hadn't yet figured out that Apolyton isn't at all related to - or successor to - Firaxis and/or Infogrames.

I guess my only remaining confusion is why MarkG, as the only poster with the Admin title, didn't reply himself. - No matter, it's moot. Assuming he's still around, I'm sure he appreciates you patrolling the territory for him.

MarkG doesn't make a living running the site; he's not around to answer questions all the time. :) So if the answer is known to more than just him, often other posters will beat him to it.

Mark, is there any chance you would consider removing the flood controls for PLUS members? The post one is slightly annoying, but since it's only 30 seconds it rarely kicks in. The PM one is also annoying, so I think it would make a good feature, and let's face it, PLUS members aren't going to spam PMs in a way that the flood control is meant to avoid.

I find myself being blocked by flood control when running forum games or coordinating players in the demogames, but after that flurry of activity don't make another pm for another few days. It just ends up as another little annoyance, and us paying members aren't really going to abuse this.

If Apolyton will have additional features, it will have them for PLUS only probably.

It's no conspiracy theory. It's just probability.
For Markos and the rest of the crew, Plussies are simple more valuable than the rest of Apolytoners.
And they have the best interest in convincing more and more Apolytoners to join Plus. And when and if the normal users will become less numerable, or when Apolyton will be low on cash,
they'll say "You have 2 months to decide whether You want to sign up for Plus or to leave Apolyton forever".
Such thing's happened to my mailbox.

Yeah my heart bleeds for you, with this site being provided to you for free through the hard work of others. Must be tough for you.

PLUS users get small benefits, and few members pay for them because they are worth the fee - I know I cough up in order to support the site I enjoy posting at, not for the benefits. It is through the actions of those that feel the same way as me that you get a site that functions well, so please, pretty please, shut the hell up.

You have some point and You could've said it in a more polite way.
I'm not only spamming here. I'm also an active member of SL community. That's some contribution to this site too.
And it's not one-sided. This site can not exist without free members. At least for now.

Mark knows this site could not exist without free members. Which is probably why he has said on numerous occasions that he would not make it a pay-site and information would be available to all members, paying or otherwise.

I could almost buy into what you're saying there, Heresson, except for the fact that there are other ways to go PLUS.

I, for one, have not paid a cent to 'poly directly, but simply done normal shopping through the US Amazon link that Mark has posted. That helps out the site, I've been doing it with every purchase ever since I found out I could do it that way.

I mean, I bought a Nuke t-shirt, but I would have gotten that somewhere else if not from 'poly just because I liked the slogan so much... it makes me smile every time I think of it. (family jokes, and the classic CivII jokes included).

If there weren't other ways to become PLUS, I'd wholeheartedly agree, though. So far, I haven't caught myself using any of the features except for being able to post in different threads at almost the same time (that whole 30-second lag was annoying...)

Anyway, there's my add-on, from a paying yet not paying PLUS member... :wall:

Now any improvements that will appear will be for Plussies probably.
You won't improve standart Apolyton account, because You won't have interest in it.

:q: see http://apolyton.net/about and let me know if there havent been any improvments for non-plus members

Yeah I could have. If you had politely made some comments about your feelings I would have responded in kind. But you didn't. You called the person whose hard work is crucial to this site 'evil'. So yeah, I responded impolitely to what was a pretty stupid post.

I called Markos evil because he's given me a pcr. And it is kind of a joke actually; I never use the mad smiley seriously.
And even if I was serious, and I was not, telling me to shut up is 100x more rude.

Markos: nice avatar.

Here are some slogans, to help convert more members to Apolyton PLUS:

Succumb to the dark side!
Join Apolyton PLUS now!

Why choose the lesser of two evils?
Join Apolyton PLUS now!

You don't know a place that even the devil fears?
Join Apolyton PLUS now!

Good... Bad... I'm the guy with Apolyton PLUS!

You can take my credit card, my car, my house, but I will never give you the login to my Apolyton PLUS account!

PLUS now or be substracted!

Some call you the Plussies!
I call you my base!

Heaven is a joke!
Hell was only made up!
Apolyton PLUS is for real!

It is pretty good. It seems faster than before and the PM extension is very nice. I used to fill up my PMs far too quickly.

Now I can scan through hundreds of warning messages from Ming. ;)

If you get a membership pay for one of the long term ones. It's better value.

Markos

I will be turning Diety Status within next 24 hours

I have been given a gift by my sweetheart of allowing me, once I do, to have a lifetime subscription..

do I get to apply what I paid for my year subscription towards that..its still got a few months left?

Additionally, I thought it would be neat in the place where "LIFER" is if a special "ETERNAL" was available for Life time members whom also were Dieties?

Just asking and Love this CIV site

you will see the price prior to clicking on the "buy now" button....

Lifers maybe should though.......lifetime sub is still very expensive, so the only reason to pay so much is out of support for the site.

I am on my quest and just a byline

I have actually learned about History more by playing all these civ games

I know people critique my multitude of attachments as well as varying range..

But in searching out for them I have learned about uniforms, battle gear, formations, and other interesting tidbits:b:

Again,

Thanks for hosting my Favorite site

Question ... I thought Plusers were supposed to be immune to the load-saving features like not dl'ing civgroup icons and whatnot. Why do I often not see civgroup icons on some or all of the people in a thread i read (usually including myself)?

I may be wrong but I believe it was during heavy traffc times

but it wouldnt be my first time I was wrong:o

Tassadar500

Huh? The only time load saving features come into effect are in heavy traffic times, which means the only time PLUS members would have that immunity is in heavy traffic times.

By the way, congratulations on Deity status. :D

The appearance/exclusion of country flags and civgroup icons seems random from poster to poster within threads at pretty much any time for me. Don't know how long ago it started, but its been months at least...

FlameFlash

I concur with Rommel on that one.

I know my civgroups appear rather randomly...

Same as Rommel. Some of you in this very thread are missing civgroup icons for me while others are not.

About the flags- that appeard to be a seperate issue, as mine seems to have been turned off without my noticing at some point...

MarkG
February 9, 2005, 04:27
your flag may have been set to null if an admin edited your account (like when you joined the team)

Rommel2D
February 9, 2005, 04:46
Yeah, that's about when I remember first noticing it. No idea really how long the civgroups have been flakey (is Doc supposed to have any?)...

a request to markg for apolytonPLUS:

would it be possible to get the advantage of wider images for ACS+ subscribers? pretty often i've run into problems when posting a screenshot and seeing that 800px width is not enough. resizing just often looks crappy so i thought that a potential limit of 1000px would be better.

i guess it won't screw up the design for people with >=1280px width and people with 1024px width are anyhow used to horizontal scrolling. also, when using external images by linking them with the [ IMG]...[ /IMG] tag the size is not an issue.

is this proposal thinkable?

Then it does seem to be a traffic issue that PLUSers aren't exempt from. Everyone's CGs were visible last night when I made that post, but about half are missing now.

Those icons aren't a big deal to me as far as consistancy (not as helpful as flags), but in case its something that should be fixed...
