View Full Version : Hints for loading/playing late-term games

I have had consistent problems with all the mods at around year 1800 or so with the game crashing to the desktop either when loading, saving, or sometimes just while the computer is taking its turn. Everything will seem fine until about then. I like the game, but what's the point of playing if you can't complete the game?
I have a 2 yr old Dell desktop with 256MB memory, WinXP, plenty of hard drive space, as optimized as any program will get the computer, but I still have trouble.
Any ideas or do I have to give up on CTP2? My most recent mod trouble is CTC, but I had the same in Apolyton pack and Goodmod.
Any help?

I play on the large (not gigantic) size, with 8 total civs including myself. I wouldn't think that should tax the computer so much it can't load the game.....

Playtesting reports suggest that the source code project's playtest release is more stable in the late game. See:

Jbytheway, thanks for your help. I hadn't experimented with the Source Code Project yet, but it does indeed seem to be a lot more stable. Now I just have to figure out if my favorite mods work with it (I'm playing totally unmodded right now). I love the CTC and Goodmod games. I haven't been brave enough to see how those behave with the new program.
