This is the tracking thread for the Trial by Trait - Team PBEM, in which 3 teams of 2 players will endeavour to pool their resources and exploit their individual traits to the best advantage of their team and out-civ their powerful opponent teams in any way possible (within ethical guidelines!).

Players, teams and civs in play order are:

MrWhereItsAt GMT+12 (Rome) - granvisimo at student dot vuw dot ac dot nz (phew!)
Aqualung71 GMT+8 (Carthage) – akwalung71 at yahoo dot com
Krill GMT (Arabia) – chris at jackos dot f2s dot com
Kloreep GMT-6 (Persia) – ben at surveypoint dot com
1889 GMT-7 (Babylon) – klemnrussell at cableone dot net
Longshot GMT-8 (Greece) – bapess at adelphia dot net

Game setup: C3C 1.22, standard size map, pangea, 70% water, regent difficulty, roaming barbs, climate/temperature/age random. All victory conditions apply except for regicide, elimination, VP scoring, etc. Cultural conversions and SGL’s are on. Culturally linked start locations are on (fingers crossed).

Communications: Unlimited between partners from the start. It’s acceptable to direct an opposing player in the early game in order to meet you so you can trade, etc. However, specific detailed map information is not to be traded until available in-game.

Other Etiquette: General guidelines as used in the Iron Civer tournament to be followed regarding exploits, except that team members are expected and encouraged to co-operate any way they can within the guidelines. Gifting of cities is allowed, however this must not result in teleporting units (same rule for gifting to a team-mate).

The first save will be sent shortly. Totally random map, no meddling or tweaking so don't blame me!

My idea of unlimited contact between team partners from the start of the game included sending each other screenshots of the map - any objections to this? (haven't done it yet).

Krill
May 14, 2004, 02:35
I like it. I was thinking about it earlier, but decided against it since the others would not know. If everyone knows we can do it, though...

Kloreep
May 14, 2004, 13:10
I figured the no-map-trading-till-Nav applied to teammates as well, but no objection if we make an exception.

PRex - you sent me your save instead. I didn't realist until I had already opened it, so I have seen your start surroundings. :( However, I had not looked at the minimap, so I still don't know WHERE you are.

Please resend...

MrWhereItsAt
May 19, 2004, 11:28
Are you sure you want out PRex? It would be a shame, just because of a single corrupt file (and that could be because you are attempting to load it in the wrong version of C3C). Also, it would mean we would need to remake the game without you.

Please reconsider. :(

Aqualung71
May 19, 2004, 21:24
1889 - maybe you could try to resend the file to PR again. I don't really want to have to restart. In any case, 3 teams with 5 players doesn't work according to my maths!

1889
May 19, 2004, 21:53

If Platapus Rex has to leave, I know some other interested players so we are back to six.

Good luck Rex.

By the way, what do you classify as 'slow' about the game? We DID have a slow start due to some confusions, but with the exception of right now things are going about as fast as is possible - 1.5-2 days between turns. How could we go much faster?

You're right of course, sorry - no offence intended to anyone. I've got a few other 4-player games that are going at well over a turn a day, so comparing to a 6-player game is a bit unfair. I'm a bit of a PBEM newbie, so I claim ignorance as my excuse :idiot:

I meant no criticism, I was just a little puzzled, is all. :D Are those other games perchance with players around Oz/NZ, or are they as scattered as we are here?

None taken ;)

A mixture....my Iron Civer game is moving ultra quickly because we're all within 3 hours of each other, which allows you to put in the odd super-session. But I do have a couple with players from all over the globe. It seems the main factor, not surprisingly, is number of players. Plus you all have to be reasonably vigilant.....the ability to check twice a day makes a big difference, though I recognise that's not possible with many players.

I guess that's what you get for being one of the first in the world to see the new millenium!

Are you on the North island or South island? I drove around the South island a few years ago, but didn't have time for the North. It was just magic! Unbelievable variety of countryside for such a small landmass.

BTW 1889, your save keeps showing as having been downloaded 3 times if I leave it up long. Very odd.

Are there spectators out there hoping to crack someone's password? :p

Ok guys, here's the deal:

Teams are:
MWIA (Rome) / Kloreep (Persia) eegads, we'll all give up now!
Aqualung71 (Carthage) / 1889 (Babylon) - for the next week or so I'll be playing 1889's turns, so Klor please send to me. Our civs have met, so please nobody have a coronary!
Platypus_Rex (Arabia) / Longshot (Greece) - PR has replaced Krill and I've asked him to post his email address.
All other email addresses are listed on the first post.

PR, your turn goes to Kloreep - see the first post for his email.

Let's play!!!

1889, I have slightly irregular working hours, and I really need to repair this comoputer.

I did not get the emails from aqua until Friday, and I am unable to use the 'net from thursday night until either midday sunday or Sometime Monday. Today was wierd, because I needed to repair the computer, and get a new virus scanner/firewall working.

I am sorry for the delay. Hopefully I may be able to come to a nice compromise by getting someone else to play my saves on Weekends...
