View Full Version : La Belle Epoque PBEM (playtest)
Eivind IV

Ok, here we go. I need some playtesters for my latest scenario. :)
"After the Franco-German war in 1870/71, Europe enjoyed a period of interior peace for more than forty years until the start of the First World War in 1914. During this period, many important developments took place, especially in England, France, Austria, Germany and the United States. The second wave of the industrial revolution seized the world. Above all it concerned the chemical industry and the electrical engineering, it was the start of the era of the combustion engine and the mass production of steel, the machines became more efficient and more powerful, the ships bigger and their construction less expensive, the propulsion changed from the paddle to the screw, from the piston to the turbine, and their speed doubled. The trains got steel rails on which longer and heavier trains could drive one and a half times as fast as before; therefore it became the most important mean of transport. At the same time began the definite conquest of the air: The first planes were built, and the airships of Zeppelin went down in history. People living in this period were materially confident and culturally optimistic. All social classes were seized by the feeling of a new start into better times. So began, on this basis, the time which nowadays not only the French call the 'La Belle Epoque' (The beutiful time)."

POTUS
March 16, 2004, 01:25
Actually, is America playable?
Eurisko
March 16, 2004, 01:55
I first said that I wanted America, but as it neither appears in this Playerlist nor in the one at the CDG forums I simply assumed that America is AI controlled.
Eivind IV
March 16, 2004, 05:48

In my eagerness to play I took some time to review the events file and found an event based on the Wright Flyer. The spelling of Orvill's name is missing the V (Orill) other than that :b:

Well, just nothing new in Russia.
We announce that we will honour all peace treaties that have been made in the past.
Well, are there any rules, house rules or else? For example, can one just trade with everybody or does there have to be a trade-contract?
ComradeCommisar
March 30, 2004, 17:00
Turn, nothing much :)

Trade goods are on their way to several big cities, US industry is being increased, naval forces start maneuvers on sea, ground forces practise combat against Mexico.
We further demand that South America stays entirely independent except for the cities which already have an owner.

Eivind IV

More trade goods on their way to France, Japan and Russia.
JamesJKirk
May 17, 2004, 20:59
I start my turn and every single one of my cities starves, this doesn't seem right, anyone have any ideas?
I played the first turn and found some cities that were a bit disfunctional, but none were starving. Anticipating a human player to take over the most I did was move some ships arround change two citizens from tax to einstiens.
I will double check the save tonight to make certain.
:o I am embarrased to say that the malfunction is due to my stupidity :idiot:
The day I played that turn I was at work on a different PC from my usual cubed domicile. The Terrain1.gif and Terrain2.gif files that should be in the Scenario folder are not there, and instead the game used the standard terain.gif file, makeing everything swamlands in britain.
I even looked at a couple cities and didn't notice this, but after looking at my own save on the same PC it is clear that I am the culprit.
As for a solution I am open to suggestions, but I see only two.
1.If JamesJKirk wishes i will do a switch and sort out the mess that I have caused in the british empire.
2. We could also go back 1 turn each and let him DL the 1st british turn to complete himself.
Again I am very sorry for the screw up, I checked my last save and it is OK (played those turns on my home PC) :unworthy:

Agree on one of them with Kirk, both is fine with me.
JamesJKirk
May 18, 2004, 16:02
If you all don't mind, I'll play the prior turn,it doesn't look like anyone did much, so hopefully it won't take long to catch up.
JamesJKirk
May 18, 2004, 21:44
All right, thanks again for letting me go back.
Britain reaffirms her security guarantees to the small nations of Portugal, Greece and Siam.
Are we saying bugs or mistakes we notice here too? In that case:
Hyperdabad should be Hyderabad
Dehli should be Delhi
Monterry should be Monterrey
Strassbourg should be Strassburg (Strasbourg in French)
And is there a reason Battleships move faster than Cruisers?
Russian Empire - Historical Atze
Imperial Japan - ------------->ComradeCommisar
German Empire - Kobra
French Empire - Zedd
USA - Eurisko
British Empire - JamesJKirk
Ottoman Empire - Figu

I meant that at the time, since it was German, I think it would've been shown as Strassburg (or with your fancy german double-s thing) on international maps (maybe not french ones :))

This sounds sensible. In fact, the correct German spelling is with our fancy double-s thing 'ß' :D
It is called a ... sharp s and is used as a hissing s after long vowels (if anyone wants to know).

Korea is annexed to the Japanese Empire
Seoul was subject to a 12 hour bombardment by Imperial Navy battleships before lead elements of the 6th Imperial Marines stormed the beaches south and north of the city. After the beach-head was secured then Japanese troops from various divisions entered the city through it's port directly.
We will ask of the Russians not to interfere in our plans of creating a Japanese-Manchurian state, the area is directly in our sphere of influence.
Historical Atze
May 25, 2004, 08:42
The same counts for Russia. We won't allow our empire to be divided by a satellite-state.
