Now that Soviet Steel II is finally done and dusted,
it is time to turn my attention to improving another scenario from last year...Vendetta.

I was not completely happy with the final result, and I am sure people had many issues they wanted sorted.
Well, now is the chance to fix anything that was not ideal, and add stuff that was needed...

:)

Not to mention a good overhaul of the the graphics!

So this thread will be for collecting ideas and recommendations for
what any previous players would like to see, or like to not see!

More info to come...

The new units are coming together quite quickly...
When I'm ready, I will show all the new units...:)
Here is a taster...:)

1st row:
Red Empire Trooper, Iron Commando, AUSCOM Marine, UFA Ranger.

2nd row:
Reichwehr. Strumwehr, Eternal Guard, SS Death Division.

February 4, 2004, 10:58
Its just a real shame Curt that you can't have more unit slots available, to give the Chinese, African and Austrailian players more variety in their custom units. Oh well, guess thats just one of the limitations we have to live with.

curtsibling
February 4, 2004, 11:24
But there is always the ToT version! ;)

Vendetta 1 was your best scenario. GL on this one.

How about this time the African country be the white-ruled South Africa? They had a pretty good "bad boy" image.

:band: Yeah- Vendetta 2!

POTUS
February 5, 2004, 01:49
I know people might disagree with me, but I would have the scenario get hot faster, or use less units. My favorite scenarios are ones where you have just enough units to accomplish your mission, and a few extra.

curtsibling
February 5, 2004, 06:29
I do plan to have new techs come a lot slower, with more focus on the units availble.

Also, I am dropping some units to make room for some new flavour types for AUSCOM, the African Coalition and the Chinese...

:)

curtsibling
February 5, 2004, 09:40
OK! :D

Here's the current state of the units!

Looks great as always! ;):b:

our_man
February 5, 2004, 10:55
I agree with POTUS. One of my major gripes with the last version were that there were too many units and cities. For us nitpicking micromanagers, turns could take aeons! :)

Sarsstock
February 5, 2004, 11:55
I actually love the fact that there are so many cities. It gives a real sense of conqueoring a nation when you have so many cities to capture. It was what I loved when I was playing as the Pan African Coalition, the fact that it seemed like you were retaking Africa one nation at a time.

Curt I also love the fact that you have given each civ their own tank. This has made the game more fair than it was before. My only concern Curt is that there are no trade/caravan units. This is too bad since you already went to the trouble with making so many interesting comodities for trading. Otherwise, I can't wait to play it. You should join a PBEM of this some time Curt, although as the games author you may have just a slight advantage.

curtsibling
February 5, 2004, 12:31
@our_man:
More cities mean long and fun campaigns!
And worry not, from the onset, there won't be too many units too cope with, and upgrades will be more smoothly introduced.

@Sarsstock:
I never gave the trade that much thought, since this is a 'coldwar'-type scenario.

Perhaps dropping the generic tank and adding a cargo truck might be an option...
Though, during wartime, getting those ferries across the seas will be almost impossible! :D

GoPostal
February 5, 2004, 12:48
Any hope of seeing any sort of free-British units (RN)

rmsharpe
February 5, 2004, 12:57
Love the units, Curt.

That APC in the second row doesn't have a shield, along with the V missile in the sixth.

Since each civ will have an air unit too, you could probably drop the generic fighter as well.

rmsharpe
February 5, 2004, 13:04
Being the Southern African geography nerd that I can tend to be, if you're using your standard gigamap, I found a more accurate location for Salisbury/Harare.

curtsibling
February 5, 2004, 13:24
Roger that, rmsharpe! :b:

PS
The units are in a state of development, and those shields will be added soon enough.

Sarsstock
February 5, 2004, 16:47
Okay, in an all out nuclear world somebody like say the Soviets may have more pressing matters than shipping their electronic goods for sales in New South Whales. However trade can be very benificial don't forget, and could easily help a smaller nation such as Pan Africa or Austrailia in building their economy quicker and allowing for a stronger buildup of arms which in turn would make war much more interesting.

I do understand your point though, I'm just playing devils advocate here. Did I mention how much I loved the aggressive "terrorists" in the first Vendetta Curt? I hope their just as aggresive this time around.

GoPostal
February 5, 2004, 17:14
Yeah, they were more of a threat to me (Eternal Reich) than the Chinese.

curtsibling
February 5, 2004, 18:06
After some thought, and the point you made for the smaller powers,
I think trade might be in this time, Sarsstock!

The generic barb tank will become a terrorist infantry, and manifest using the guerilla units stats...

Also, the generic fighter must stay, to give the minor powers a fighter, from which to upgrade to UU types.

And worry not...The terrorists will be evil as ever, and they even have nukes this time around! :)

Sarsstock
February 6, 2004, 00:54
Are there not going to be any burried tanks for the Soviets? I know your low on unit space but maybe if you could include a burried tank graphic as a terrain it would be great. There's just something so fitting about the Soviet border lined with old burried tanks, staring out at a vast forgotten battlefield from decades past. You know, it had a real poetic element to it.

Glad to hear there's going to be a trade unit comming!!

curtsibling
February 6, 2004, 04:18
Funny, when I had the buried tank included, people wanted it dropped!

I'll see how things shape up, and perhaps remove the 88mm AA gun...

rmsharpe
February 6, 2004, 09:04
Whoops, it may appear that my attached image would give the impression that I placed a city where Salisbury/Harare would be, I didn't, it's the square that is highlighted by the cursor that should be the city's base. Just clearing up any confusion.

How goes progress on this, anyway? I'm not meaning to rush, but I can bet we're all curious to see how far you've come.

curtsibling
February 6, 2004, 14:20
@rmsharpe:

I knew the cursor indicated the desired city place...:)

Scenario status?
Well, the new tech progression document is in place, and the new units/icons/terrain is in a state of readiness!

So after putting together a new rules.txt, and re-doing the map unit placement, it will be ready for playtesting! :D

Sarsstock
February 6, 2004, 16:59
Looking good Curt, say I really hope to see you in a PBEM of this one of these days. As the games author, I'm curious who you'd pick to play?

curtsibling
February 7, 2004, 05:57
Hmmm...

I used to like playing as the Chinese or Africans...

It's fun to take on the titans of the UFA and Eternal Reich! :D

Sarsstock
February 7, 2004, 12:07
I had a feeling you'd have a soft spot for the Pan Africans, out of all the civ's they have the most nobel of missions, reuniting Africa!! I'm curious, what was your insperation for the Ghost fighter, and for that matter the African tank. I'm just curious if either have a real life equivillant?

curtsibling
February 7, 2004, 16:40
True! I like the conquest involved in winning back Africa from the evil GEU! :D

Well, the GLF tank is taken from the very nice Pacific units released by Case recently, and it's camo seemed to fit a treat.

I hope those fine chaps don't mind me using it... :)

The GLF fighter is now called the Voodoo, as it fits their army mood better. And a cooler name no less!

Also, here is a full list of all the current units:

Voodoo eh? Yeah I could see that growing on me. I can't stop saying good things about this concept man, I just love it. Any idea who landed on the moon first in this timeline?

curtsibling
February 7, 2004, 18:39
That is still to be decided!

The space race was put on hold as the factions were busy waging war around the globe.

While probes hav been launched into orbit,
The moon awaits the first man to set his foot there!
But will it be the Reich or the UFA, or one of the others?

:D

Sarsstock
February 8, 2004, 23:19
The moon hasn't been conquered by 1980? Wow that is sad indeed. But I like the idea that the race for the moon may be part of the game. Curt this is sounding better every day!!

POTUS
February 8, 2004, 23:58
If this was TOT, I could see invading the moon as just the next step in bringing the war to the enemy.

curtsibling
February 9, 2004, 05:16
A ToT version will be a reality once I make a city-filled giga map for that civ2 format! :b:

Sarsstock
February 9, 2004, 12:11
Now there's an awsome concept POTUS, a nuclear war spreads to the moon, I could just picture the Chinese and the Pan Africans fighting it out in the Sea of Tranquility.

curtsibling
February 9, 2004, 12:40
That's the kind of groovy idea that ToT was made for...:)

I would have to remove some cities on the Earth map to make way for space bases!

Where I am at just now:
I may have to delay the beta release for a few hours.

I came under attack from the evil wormDoom virus last night,
and have been struggling to remove it's vile cybernetic grasp on my Windows XP!

Why an innocent PC jockey like me? :(

Hostile virus creators should go up against the wall!

But like Stalingrad, this is a minor setback!

curtsibling
February 11, 2004, 04:55
Phew!

Luckily I am able to back up all my civ stuff!

Sarsstock
February 11, 2004, 11:16
Thats just terrible, these virus writers are the biggest cowards in the world. They don't even have the balls to look the people their screwing with in the eye.

curtsibling
February 12, 2004, 06:08
Yep, this virus is aimed at one company, but everyone else gets caught in the crossfire!

I am satisfied my PC is clean now...

At the moment, I am doing some last minute checks, then I am going to call on the services of Mr rmsharpe,
to hex out the pollution from nukes...

So nukes will be buildable from the start.
The Reich and the UFA have nuke building ability,
while China and others will be close to getting them...

Sarsstock
February 12, 2004, 12:30
Hmm... so there will be no non-proliferation treaty this time. Thats too bad, I liked the idea of the treaty the first time around. Oh well, I still can't wait to give this a play when its ready Curt.

curtsibling
February 12, 2004, 13:06
Well if you would prefer, I can restrict the nukes.

I guess everything being blatted from turn 2 is a bit off...

I'll see what I can do...:)

My concern is that the Austrailian Osprey fighter's strength is so low, it has an attack value of 4, compared with the African's Voodoo fighter's attack value of 12. Is this meant to reflect an inferior areospace industry in Austrailia?

curtsibling
February 19, 2004, 05:53
Notice the Voodoo's small defence to though.

The osprey should be a bit tougher, I'll make a change to about 6a 5d.

Eivind IV
February 19, 2004, 07:30
I just downloaded it and it looks awesome! :B:

Some things I noticed right away:
* The AI uses carriers to attack cities, and it has 1 in attack. Maybe it should have 0?
* And many cities are visable, but you can't see the name of them. Is this intentionally? Maybe you should reveal the whole map :) .

I will play more and report if I find anything, but so far it looks good! :D

Eivind IV
February 19, 2004, 07:42
* Many of the units can't be moved on the first turn. You have probably fortified them from the in game menu when you command the unit. I would maybe fortify it from the cheat menu (ctrl-shift u).
* And this is probably just me beeing picky but the German units in the transporter off Cyprus does not sleep inside the transporter :D .
* And these cities will grow like hell with this food production! :)
* Just a thought: Is it possible to somehow make the game 'darker'. Like if you for instance made the ocean almost black. To justify it, say that it is oil from all the sunken ships in the Atlantic. It would certainly give you the feeling of 'a dark cloud over the world' :D . Bah! It sounds too LOTR-ish and would maybe be too unrealistic.

curtsibling
February 19, 2004, 08:02
Hmmm!

The carriers are taken from civ2 vanilla, yep I will make the CVs non-attackers...Or maybe give them a decent attack!

Well, the fortified units are mean to be various divisions going on manoeuvres, etc...
Some people hate cycling through a billion units on the 1st turn...

I wanna mke life easy! :D

Hey!
I really like your ocean idea, actually!
The Vendetta world is no picnic!

I will look at modding the terrain colours a bit! :b:

Cheers!

I have noticed, that most the Infantry units don't have the "ignore city walls" flag. Do you want this to be ?
It would make them almost useless in an offensive if they don't get the flag : I

I wanted city attacks done by arty, planes and tanks...

I'll perhaps add that flag in the next update...:)

I realize this is the kind of question I should save for the Kaiser thread.... but I just have to know. How are you going to divide up the civ's? What I've never liked about the CIV II engine is that it allows only seven human nations and the barbarian nations, it can get tricky dividing up the world into seven players, six if you want a defined neutral power.

Will the Central Powers be one civ? Will the Entetee be another civ? I assume Japan will be a civ but will China be a civ as well?

I too have often dreamed of having more than 7 civs for the scenarios...

Large power-blocs and neutral civs are what to expect!

Kurt, I have noticed that, for the Australian player, there is no point in building AUSCOM's after getting Main Battle Tanks III, as the Bunyip has the same abilities, better stats, and same costs.

I think the AUSCOM infantry should be given another special ability that justifies their extremely high price, maybe they should be able to make paradrops.

Also, the African MBT should be more expensive, it has way to good stats for a price of only 80 shields.
