WOOHOO! quote:
You've already heard a few of the new ideas and innovations that are going into Civ III and there are many, many more to come! We're focusing heavily on the areas of trade and commerce and the role they played in mankind's development throughout history. We think it will be fun to be able to corner the market by specializing in the production of oil, or wheeling and dealing with other civilizations to achieve mutual economic benefits or to cut off resources to a powerful enemy. You'll also see major new developments in our combat system. For the first time you'll be able to conduct sweeping military invasions using brand new units and military features, including leaders and armies. Another area of focus is diplomacy. We made great progress in the diplomacy system in Alpha Centauri and we plan to radically advance the diplomacy in Civ III by giving the player more power to construct deals to match any situation.

YES! YES! Corner the market in trade and deny products to enemies! WOW! and I like the armies idea! And Sid is leading development! YES! Such a happy day! |

Wow!! I'm speachless!!Thanks so much Sid for the update! I am so very excited about the features that civ3 will have!! Trade and commerce, combat with armies and leaders and a radically improved diplomacy, all sound absolutely fantastic. I am especially excited about the new radically improved diplomacy. It is my favorite part if the game. ------------------ No permanent enemies, no permanent friends. [This message has been edited by The diplomat (edited March 23, 2000).] |

This is a great day for Markos and Dan, and I think everyone who loves the game, whether they've found their way to Apolyton yet or not.It sounds like Sid is talking about something like an energy resource model with mention of resources and cornering the market, etc. Thanks to Sid for the good news. It all sounds just FAR too cool... [This message has been edited by raingoon (edited March 24, 2000).] |

It would have been good if sid had left comments on some of the ideas so that we could improve some of the ideas more. But knowing that he has read them and is even going so far as to use some of them. I think all games companies should disband their R&D and just allow everyone at Apolyton to generate ideas for them! |

CyberShy, no need to pre-order. With a great P.R. move Firaxis will give to us at Apolyton five hundred copies of CIV III for free, to send as a gift to the Apolytoner that most contribute with their effort to the design of the game Ok, it's only a dream, but if you think twice, that will be only around a 15 thousand dollars to give away for Firaxis, where it will end to be a really smart move IMO. It will be very cost/effective also relating to common Advertising cost and an investment on enthusiastic users: how many of us will be harsh about some "first release" glitches and bugs if the game will be a thank gift from Firaxis? Sid, are you still reading? ------------------ Adm.Naismith AKA mcostant

I'm even more excited now. Thanks, Sid! The fact that you even consider our ideas is a great testament to your commitment to design a game that is in a league of its own. Listening to the customers on what can be better in Civ3 shows how modest you and your team are. There's always room for improvement, right? |

Korn - you are absolutely right about the beta test! And here some critical voices: Sid said nothing about the "deeper changes" in the games, just some improvements. What I want to know is if CIV III will be more realistic in the way it ends:- will be there other possibilities to end the game instead of slaugthering al other civilizations or building a spaceship? - what's about the concepts of world's peace, of culture, of religion and minorities? I want more deeper information from Firaxis, not just a statement like "... and there will be many, many, many more other changes ..." |

Let's be patient! as the game moves forward, I am sure that Firaxis will tell us more about the game. I can't wait! Stratos: since Sid mentionned cornering the market, I think there will probably be an economic victory. So, I think they will improve the ways of winning the game. I think that Firaxis will have "deeper changes". They just have not told us everything yet! Let's be patient. I can't wait for screenshots myself. I am curious about, as Sid put it, the "brand new graphics engine that will bring the Civ world alive like never before". Civ3 will take CTP2 down for the count!! ------------------ No permanent enemies, no permanent friends. |

cybershy, you used the wrong word... You should use Dr. Meier or something like that. One of my professors explicitly stated in the beginning of the semester that all students MUST call him Prof. 'something' or Doctor 'something'. The reason: because he spent 10 years just to get that title! I hope Sid is not angry at you. ------------------ Thunderfall Civilization Fanatics' Center [This message has been edited by Thunderfall (edited March 24, 2000).] |

My thanks to Sid, not only for letting us know he's read and valued our input enough to actually consider and incorporate our ideas into Civ 3, but also for giving us an (admittedly vague) update regarding the status of the game. We know it's gonna be a while, but a positive message from on high is always welcome.I'd like to add that I can only hope this becomes a future trend, where game developers listen closely to what the fans are asking for and actually try to adapt their concepts into upcoming games. Perhaps we can avoid having a market full of crap in this way. Thanks for making us happy (again) Sid! The grass is greener, the sun is brighter...even my dog doesn't smell quite as stinky today. God bless us, everyone!! |
