Eh, maybe on the same disk as Civ3 quote:
Civ1 and 2 on a special "Civ Collector's" CD, with the original manuals in .pdf format (only if some deal could be struck with Microprose, of course).
 |
Yeah! I've never played Civ1 and would jump at the chance to play it! That's what they did with Oregon Trail 3 and that sold great! quote:
A cloth map of the world (or a great fold-out with cool historical facts and a timeline on the back).
 |
The cloth map of the world would hang on my wall in my room. As someone suggested, a cloth units/terrain/tech would be even more useful for the game at hand. quote:
A "Making of Civ3" CD which includes the music tracks and sound effects.
 |
I'd love the to make a parody of "Behind The Music"!!! Behind The Game? Hmmmm... I'd like a seperate CD with music from all 3 games. quote:
A paperback History of the World by some well-known historian.
 |
Nice add-on, but not that great. I don't want this Civer Edition weighing 20lbs now. quote:
I wonder how much it would cost to put in a Britannica "History of the World" or "History of War" CD in the box?
 |
Like I've said, nice add-on, but it may weigh the box (and price) down. quote:
A pewter figurine (each box is different!). You would get one of the follwing: A globe; a phalanx; a bomber; a nuclear missile; or a settler. 1000 lucky fans would get ALL of them! Of course, each one would have "CivIII" stamped on it somewhere.
 |
I like the idea of a globe, maybe with "Civilization" on the side of the earth. Gee, Civ across the world. Maybe the size of a baseball, nice size. And in color. quote:
A letter from Sid, Jeff and Firaxis. You know, one of those simulated signature ones telling us how cool it's been working on the game and how great the Civ fans are. =)
 |
I'd like more of a certifacate of authenticity with the letter on it with those mass produced signatures on them and what number you got. Good ideas, but I don't want to pay $200 for a 50pound box now. ------------------ The Brain: Weirdo who takes modern culture and stabs it in the eye -Founder of DoH! -Please pull up to the second window -I see dead people...give me my medication! -What's your favorite scary mov--Please deposit 25 cents for the next 5 minutes. -Visit DoH, or else! -How much longer is my sig gonna get? -This much. I just don't understand why anyone would want to buck the trend of lower software prices, by agreeing - UP FRONT! - to pay $60-70 for a game. Most new release in the NYC area have been priced anywhere from $35-50. Please, at least PRETEND(!) to be a discriminating consumer-at least for the sake of the rest of us. |

I understand the concern about paying too much for mediocre games, which explains why I have a wait and see attitude for most products. I normally wait until the first patch is out and thereby enjoy a cheaper and most stable gaming experience. However, both Civ1 and Civ2 more than delivered. If you were to divide the cost of those games (full retail) by the number of hours spent playing them, you'd be looking at pennies to the hour. So, in the case of Civ3, I have every reason to believe the same will hold true. Now on top of that if they can provide a "Civer Edition," I'd be more than willing to pay my $70. Keep in mind, as I said, I'm quite cautious about these things normally. |

If the regular game costs $50 and I buy it I will not buy the civer's edition. However if the edition costs $70 and is bundled with an expansion pack with scenarios, units, bugfixes etc. I'll buy it. More ideas for the Civers edition -Civ I and II bundled (or at least the 'classic' 1) -More units. (25) -More terrains. (10) -More planets ('worlds'). (2) |

50% + (original price) is my reasonable limit I think... Who knows for a game of such magnitude/impact in the gaming industry one day it will probably be worth a whole lotta $$$ and it would probably be showcased in some gaming museum on a primitive/ancient (even by today's standards) Intel based box running a Windoze Operating System (OS = oxymoron)...------------------ only human...sigh |

Hi.Since I have Civ 1 dos, Civ 1 win, CivNet, Civ 2, Civ 2 MGE, and TOT, I would buy a deluxe version of Civ 3, and paid what ever. I also have C&C T.S., and the figure what very nice. If Firaxes read this, I would remommend the deluxe version be a preorder only to see if it would worth it, to put into stores. ------------------

Most of us probably already have all the versions of Civ... I'm only missing CivNet and MPG...I dunno about a "Civver's edition" we probably already have all the older Civ games. Now, a plastic settler figure, I would pay for... |

Civ3 is going to cost me a $1,000!(yep, I'm not upgrading my P75 c/w 3x (!) CD until Civ3 comes out...) So wtf is another $20 for a special edition? Zero, even the new computer is zero, compared to the $20,000 I could earn by working instead of playing Civ3. |

Someone with a worst computer than me(p166)! Go to OT and post your specs! But I think SS's point is good - I've got all the civ2 stuff except ToT (too non-civ feel), so there wouldn't really be much point of bundling the old games with Civ3. ------------------ No, in Australia we don't live with kangaroos and koalas in our backyards... Yin26 - I have nothing against a nice thick Civ-3 "collectors-" or "Civers edition" whatsoever! On the contrary! I however believe strongly that they are forced to start out with a Civ-3 standard-edition FIRST, to see if it sells as expected (at least beyond 1.5 million copies). There is so much money envolved, and a very real amount of financial risk-taking - and the company is so small. I say, progress slowly and wisely. - First; the standard edition. If its sells as expected, then... - At least 2 beefed-up scenario-addons after each other. If that sells... - THEN, we can start talking about any "collectors-" or "Civers edition". First things first, and one thing at a time - thats what I say.

I'm diffently going to buy Civ III the day it comes out. I would rather just have the normal stuff that will come with the game and pay my $40-$50 instead of having to pay around $70 for just a couple of crappy extras put in the box just to lure some sucker into spending $20 more. |

I would pay extra, definately. Depending on what exactly extra is included, up to 15-20$ more for just novelty stuff, up to 50$ more for really good extra's. |

Hey, howcome that poll came and went so quickly?! I miss one evening of browsing these forums, and a brand new poll I've never seen before has been closed already!!Anyway, I wouldn't pay anything extra for a civer's edition. I want to see what the game's like, first - ToT was a desperate disappointment, so I don't want to buy a special bells-&-smells edition only to throw it away after a week or so! And if the civer's edition comes out at a later date, there's no way I'm going to throw good money away by buying the game all over again just to get a couple of pretty pictures, CD's and a cheap figurine, etc.! THE GAME IS WHAT COUNTS! |

Hrmm... Don't get me wrong, I love the Civ series, in fact, it is one of the few games that has passed the test of time for me (sorry, I couln't resist). But I would be weary of paying more for a game that had "extas" that I already own or a figurine that would only cluter further my already small, yet quite busy apartment. If they released both at the same time, I would have no objections (yes, that is big of me, har har) but I can honestly say I would spend my money on the the less expensive, yet just as playable version. |

Above configuration is really extremely unlikely. Besides the fact that it is Microprose (not Firaxis) that own the rights for Civ-1/Civ-2, why on earth should they add so much old stuff?? And "gaming guide for all games" - my God, how much does that weigh? Ever heard of transport- and storage-fees? Yes, it can all be in PDF-format, but is it really worth the expenses? I think not. I say; let them concentrate on Civ-3 stuff only for crying out load. Compare with "Ultimate Civilization II collectors edition" - that package included Civ-2 related stuff only. So judging from the past, it really seems most likely that any future (at least 2 years from now) "Civers edition" will also contain Civ-3 related stuff only, doesnt it? |

I'm going to buy whichever version is sitting on the store shelf in week 1 of the UK release. If the two choices were sitting side by side on the shelf then I might well buy the special edition if it had the full Civ II/Fantastic Worlds/ToT/T-Shirt bundle just because CD's get scratched so another backup is welcome. The chances of me actually playing Civ II again if Civ III lives up to even half of our expectations is slim. |
