 I am impressed by the unresponsiveness of the apolyton freeciv section; the MAC and native windows clients have gone unreported. The new graphical server interface has not been mentioned. And none of the new features have been reported. |

Ok, sorry, for some reason I was feeling grumpy .But may I suggest: 1) You cut down on the freeciv page; many of the items can be done by simply linking to the relevant www.freeciv.org page. Then you will have the most up to date content. All relevant downloads will be there anyway. 2) Get someone who is actually interested in freeciv, and who follow the mailing lists, to administer the apolyton freeciv homepage. All the important things take place on those lists. Maybe you could send a mail to freeciv@freeciv.org asking of someone want the job; or alternatively just ask in this thread.

When it is done . Depends on how much time I have. What remains is:
- mess with flags, unit activities, city sizes etc.
- scrollbar bug. (easy)
- restore old view mode (relatively easy)
- goto line functionality.
- make it not be dog slow.
- graphics related to city combat. (easy)
- cleanup code
- modify freeciv to be able to use the new city styles.(easy add-on)

In C, using Gimp Drawing Kit. There didn't go much though into the choise of gdk, it was just what the old view used, and it seemed to do what I needed. (But I will prbably have to go rewrite most of it at a level below gdk to get it faster. And FoW doesn't work quite right using only stock function...)

Changes include:
- Client goto line like in ctp and SMAC. (I really like this one
)
- Patrol command.
- Experimental support for multiple connections controling/observing a single civ.
- Some people had trouble with lag; the network code rewrite hopefully fixes this.
- readline completion in the server (I can see the puzzled look on the windows users faces)
- Shared vision. This is not just map exchange once in a while, the maps are kept completely up to date between players with shared vision.
- We now have 64 nations.
- Lots of bugfixes
look at the freeciv-cvs mailing list at http://arch.freeciv.org In the works:
- Native MAC client
- Completely native windows client (no gtk or X)
- Isometric view (did you notice
)
- I made a quick hack of a map editor. Well - you can make maps with it at least

What I am talking about is the CVS version, that will become the next version. Since freeciv is an open-source type project everybody can download this, like everybody who wants to can participate in the actual development or just track the discussion on the mailing lists.It seems to me that it is apolyton newsworthy when a feature becomes implemented in CVS; at least you jump at every small half-baked peice of developments news from any of the other projects . And we didn't decide what to call the next version... As the protocol is still compatable with 1.11.4 and 1.11.0 we might call it 1.11.6... quote:

 | dont worry, if that happens, we can make a news item: "sudden change! the freeciv team surprised everyone today, not naming the new version 1.12 but rather 1.11.6" quote:

MarkG: Just a few small corrections to that news item:
- I think it is "controlling" with 2 l's
- There should be an "'" after "windows users"
- The number 64 is the number of nations that has a ruleset with cities and leaders. You can "only" play with 32 of them at one time.
(Yes, I know the 2 first were my spelling errors.) |
