Not many of those, I'm afraid...
Anyway, I've playe my 10 turns (It felt kind of short, since I wasn't at war)

-----------------------------------------------

A summary of the term of office of President Phoenixcager III, known as Apolyton XXIII

The term of Phoenixcager III will probably be known in the years to come as the last years of peace in the illustrious history of the Greek nation. When he came into office in the year 1500AD, the Greek Nation was at peace with the rest of the world.

However, the pesky Irish persisted in sending in illegal immgrants and escorts into our territory.

In 1510, a deal was struck with the Irish government to withdraw these escorts for a price of 100 gp....however, the Irish aliens would prove to be a problem till the end of Phoenixcager's term. It was decided that we would build up our military might with the latest inventions and strike when we are ready.

In 1520, we bolster our position as the World economic superpower, with a cotton trade route between Dublin and Hanover

In 1525, our scientists finally fine tune their latest invention: the tank!. 5 of our factories immediately start retrofitting to prepare for tank production. At the same time our scientists decide to research into a complementary air-support weapon...the jet-propelled bomber.

The years between 1525 and 1545 are spent bulding up our land with farms and mines that we may have resources built up for the future war against the Irish.

In 1545, the Penicillin wonder is built in Washington D. C. !! Our cities receive a growth bonus. The same year, jet propulsion is discovered, and our scientists head for Corporate republic.

After 50 peaceful years in office, Phoenixcager III retires and fades away in the shadows of history...

Good summary there Phoenix.
Peacetime is sometimes not as much fun, but hey at least we got Tanks now!

As for the suggestion to change that text line to allow bigger empires, I believe that everyone would have to change their text files. Well, actually here's what could happen:

Somebody changes the text file to allow, say, 100 cities.
They go out and conquer a few and let's say build up to an empire of 75 cities.
When the file goes to the next player who hasn't changed the file, he will have a very unhappy empire!

Well, perhaps we should wait until another game so it doesn't get too complicated. If you guys all want to do it, I'm game though.

I guess Octavius has the game file now.
The other succession game is moving fast, they might actually catch up to us!

I had a thought for one of the next games. Why don't we invite as many people as possible and go for the largest game we can get.
I know that we may only get 2-3 turns, but that's okay because we could devote our attention to other games in progress.

Redstar1 has created a web site, by the way, to post the chronicles of our turns! It looks great. He also gave creative titles to 'mark' our individual reigns. Pretty clever.
Here's the link: http://www.redstar1.net/ctp2

By the way, I have small confession:
The line in my last summary,
"1465AD Skeeve repels rumors that his administration sold arms and technology to the English."

I wrote that because I bribed the English 1000GP to soften them up so that they would sign a cease-fire later on.

If someone wants to re-surface this during their reign, then, go ahead have fun with it!

I have an idea about the next game. We can get as many people as we can and play one round. After that we could separate into 2-3 smaller teams, each heading for its own goal (i.e. conquest, science victory, etc.) and see who finishes first (or gets higher score).

just an idea

Well, in case anybody's wondering as to why all the insinuations of corruption, it's because (in essence) there was: we became a corporate republic. So, the corporations rule! That means we can take the rest of the Irish cities and FINALLY have our continent to ourselves. It's been a while; it was bad luck for the computer to put us on the largest continent in the world. Sucks for them.

The reign of Octavius II, elected Apolyton in 1550 AD. This is a record of his actions.

1550 - After being elected against the mayor of the largest city in Greece, Dublin, Octavius II calls for the construction of more mines in West Greece. Public works was, after all, one of his campaign promises.

1555 - Following in his ancestor's footsteps, he builds a fort to secure a passage between Sligo and Waterford.

1560 - Built farms around Troy and established an elephant trade route between Glasgow and Allentown. Also, seeing his people's cry for less pollution, he decides Recycling should be the ultimate goal of state scientists.

1565 - More farms and a fort to aid in connecting the newly-conquered eastern cities with the rest of the state are begun. Also began work improving the "forgotten" island to the north of the mainland.

1570 - First 2 tanks are complete! They are sent off to Blarney to join the army already there. Also just built: a corporate franchise to spread our superior companies' influence around the globe, and a PT boat to patrol the waters around our great planet.

1575 - Fort complete, allowing for Waterford-Sligo rail line.

1580 - The government collapses in a huge election scandal, something about campaign contributions and dead people voting. Octavius II manages to keep power through his sheer prose and rhetoric. More Irish than are comfortable are milling about Greek territory, but the time is not right for war.

1585 - People apparently love anarchy. They are joyous, as a lack of law makes every pleasure legal. Or so say sociologists. Octavius believes it is in the lack of taxes or school. When asked for comment, he says "They elect me to bring order and love me when I bring disorder. Go figure."

1590 - To gear up for a coming war (as Octavius is hearing sweet things from his "beneficiaries" in the coalescing Republic), he raises military readiness to "War" status.

1595 - Much to the chagrin of the people, the government comes out of anarchy. Stocks jump. Embassy established in Cork, as is a franchise. However, upon denying oil companies access to wilderness areas for exploration, the aging Octavius II loses the election and is subsequently forced to move to a village in the icy hills west of Troy. Interestingly, everything he sends to publishers is rejected, and so, after dying, he fades into history. In the mean time, Apolyton-elect Jonny takes office.

That was good! I always wondered about why the people were more happy under anarchy! Go figure indeed.

This is a summary of the reign of Jonny III, also known as Apolyton XXV.

AD 1600 - In this year, Jonny III comes to power of the Greek Corporate Republic. He notices that he Empire State Building is being built in Athens and that the Zero Crime Bill is being built in Boston.

AD 1605 - We build our first bomber unit. We ask the Irish to give us the city of Cork for some gold. They refuse, and we threaten to declare war. They refuse, and we declare war.

AD 1610 - Hannover builds a destroyer. I think it is our first.

AD 1615 - More fighting in the field.

AD 1620 - We capture the city of Cork from the Irish. They only have three cities left.

AD 1625 - There is nothing major going on, just moving some units around.

AD 1630 - The Zero Crime Bill is completed in Boston. We also capture the city of Limerick this year.

AD 1635 - More moving units.

AD 1640 - We capture Galway from the Irish. They only have one city left.

AD 1645 - We capture the last Irish city, Glaslough. The Irish are no more, and there are only three civilizations in the world. We also complete the Empire State Building. All the excitement of conquering the Irish makes him very ill and kills him. Before he dies, he says that Immortal Wombat will be the next Greek ruler.

By the way, who started building those two wonders without telling us?

Jonny

Skeeve started the Zero Crime Bill (it's mentioned in his post). Not sure about the other one though. It was being built during my reign, though.

Great to hear that some of the units I started building have finally seen some action! and the Irish destroyed too!

Well, ya can't blame them for refusing. After all, history shows that appeasement never works. (Hitler, Saddam, etc...)

Herein lies an account of the reign of Apolyton XXVI.

Apolyton XXVI, Immortal Wombat III, the chosen successor to Jonny was a great scholar of Greek history, and so was aware, even if the population wasn't, that he had the standards of his ancestors to live up to. His great-great-grandfather ruled Greece when it was just half the size, and Apolyton Wombat III's first act as president was to journey to all his cities, greeting them. This was 1550

In 1655, Apolyton Wombat III moved his vast armies of cannons, artillery and tanks up to the northern shore, and prepared an invasion of North America. He had cities produce Troop Ships to tkae them across the sea. When a large enough force had assembled by the side of Limerick, Apolyton used the diplomatic system layed down over the years, to invent a devious technique that became known as the Wombat Manoeuver. He demanded a city from the North Americans - an attractive coastal city called Apache. In exchange, he offered the important city of Limerick. The North Americans at first refused, but afraid of provoking a war, they appeased Apolyton, and gave in to his demands. At once, Apolyton Wombat III rush-built a machine gunner in Apache, and reconquered Limerick, much to the outrage of the free peoples of the world. As Greece now covers half the world, Apolyton little cared for the opinions of non-Greeks, and set up a massive propaganda campaign, praising his military strategy
The propaganda was most successful, taking the North American slogan "Immoral Wombat", and twisting it, making Apolyton Wombat the "Immortal". The people are happy.

1660
Two troop ships are full, mostly of tanks and artillery. They move Northeast, towards the southwest corner of North America. The English will wait. For now...

1665
A PT boat is lost to a North American submarine, but the news is covered up by the discovery of Advanced Naval Tactics, so a tragedy like this will never happen again, because Greek seamen will now be able to stand firm in new design Battleships. Apolyton Wombat III decides to research Global Economics so that someday we can research conservation, and learn to protect the world around us.

1670
Troop movement

1675
Again, Apolyton attempts the Wombat Manoeuver, but this time, the North Americans are wise to the devious Wombat, and decline his *generous* offer.

1680
In a fit of madness, a PT boat captain mistook an English sub for a North American sub, and we are now at war with the last two civilisations on the planet.
The first 5 tanks reach north america, and stage a dummy reconnaissance attack. We learn the defenses of Cherokee.

1685
Government archaelogists are rumoured to have found a Bob the Builder doll under the city of Dublin. Wombat is taking great interest in this project...

By1690, 10 units are ready to stage an assault on Cherokee. We are able to take the city with just 2 casualties. Bombing begins on Iroquois.

1695
The aging Wombat is losing popularity with the younger voters, and the final straw comes when an 8-strong army of tanks and artillery enter Sioux and are beaten into retreat by fierce American opposition, losing three fine divisions. A reconnaissance mission to Iroquios reveals a machine gunner, two artillery and a cannon, and the bombing continues. In the 1700 elections, the Greek people decide they want a new leader to meet the challenges of the 18th century, and Apolyton "the Immortal" Wombat loses an election for the first time in half a century.

Well, I have no objections if no one else does.
Of course, that means you'll have a lot of writing to do....

(Oh, by the way, we are supposed to be down to 10 turns each, so technically you would have 20 turns).

Have fun with it.

Immortal Wombat: By the way, I loved the "Wombat Maneuver"!
