Father Beast remembers fondly of a unnamed game he, his older brother and stepfather played long ago in his latest article entitled "My Long Term Love Affair With Civilization". This is the 128th installment of The Column, a long-running feature on Apolyton where individuals can submit pieces of writing talking about the state of the Civilization nation in the past, present or future. If you would like to write for this series, please see our Column Submission page. Comments/questions on this week's piece are welcomed. ---------------- Dan; Apolyton CS |

Nice article from a true Civ fan! But what is this you say: >>>I love all things Civ, and I’ll probably even pick up CTP cheap at some point, despite the problems I've heard about it.<<<CTP is an excellent game and for me it has been better then the rest of the Civ games and equally as fun as Alpha Centauri. If you can get it then do so and you will have more of those fun unforgetable Civ moments. You know those long gaming nights and the times at work when you are actually thinking about what you are going to do next in your present Civ game. I look at a game of CTP or SMAC as an event. Something that I kind of have to plan. You know maybe taking a day or two off from work or setting up a night where I can play without being bothered. Top quality time the Civ way |

I'm a little puzzled - you've got a wife, but a year later your grandmother's sending you $10? >looks puzzled for a moment< I think the board game "Settlers" sounds a bit like the old game you remember...

Don't ask me why, my grandmother's been sending me mney for my birthday for the longest time. She didn't quit when I moved out on my own, nor when I got married. This year I used her birthday money to buy the Hellfire add on pack for Diablo.Settlers? do they still make that? I know if I type that into a search engine, I'll get a bazillion hits about the computer game. |

AustralianJeremy, Never argue with a card that contains money. quote:

What else would Grandma Beast have intended that money for? It seems too fitting. |

I myself am looking forward to my thank you letter telling her what I spent it on. |
