Furthering the (re-)discovery of the machinima and live-action blended series Age of Nations (AoN), this week brings about a previously unreleased Extra production. During the recording of Episode 112's commentary, Creator/Producer Daniel "DanQ" Quick and Voice Actor Daniel Rodrigues talked more than could be fit into the episode's runtime. Moreover, discussion quickly turned more general to the series itself. This conversation was recorded in January 2007. Entitled Ex105: "Season 1 Commentary #2, it is now available for netcasting with a runtime of 08m34s.

Set in the Rise of Nations universe as the first Real-Time Strategy (RTS) machinima series and first for the game, AoN ran for one season of 14 episodes and ending with a featurette released in July 2007. From the now defunct game developer Big Huge Games co-founded by Civilization II and Alpha Centauri Lead Designer Brian Reynolds, RoN worked to incorporate Turn-Based Strategy (TBS) elements into an RTS environment. Civilization 5 Patch 1.0.2.13 has been released. That is the big patch announced for this fall. It contains many fixes and tweaks and also support for Windows 8 touch screen support. Here is the list with full patch notes highlighted are the things that were not in the announcement earlier this year:

    BUG FIXES

    General

    • Mod Browser - The "Get Mods" button is now hidden if the user has disabled the steam overlay.

    Civilizations and Traits

    • Ottoman naval upkeep is now fixed. Save games that were started before the fix will not be corrected.
    • German UA and Oligarchy social policy now work together correctly.

    City States

    • Mercantile CS now only get a unique luxury for their first city (and not the cities they conquer). Unique luxury is removed upon capture (players can no longer get it by taking over a CS). Unique luxury is given back upon liberation.
    • Prevent double counting of resources when an improvement is gifted to a minor civ, then the minor civ techs up to activate the improvement.

You at Apolyton asked to cover X-Com: Enemy Unknown. So here it is and welcome to our X-Com forum and section. The forum is primarily oriented around discussion of X-Com: Enemy Unknown, although discussion of older X-Com games is more than welcome.

We at Apolyton decided to host an X-Com forum not only because of the Firaxis connection, but because X-Com has a lot of appeal for players of Civilization and 4X strategy games in general. Players of X-Com prefer to take their time working organizing their squads to best achieve the mission goals, and, like Civ players, have a hard time not playing One More Turn. ...

    From Today's Wall Street Journal

    By IAN SHERR

Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. is developing a new version of "Civilization," one of its most storied franchises, featuring interconnected virtual worlds in which players compete. But it isn't for the U.S., its largest market; this game is being developed for South Korea.

The New York company—best known for its "Grand Theft Auto" and "Borderlands" franchises—is the latest of a bevy of large U.S. game companies attempting to embrace the fast-growing Asian markets, where gaming consoles such as Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox and Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 3 barely have a presence. Instead, gamers there typically play on a personal computer at home or in Internet cafes. ...

    - Vote Daily for PolyCast in the 2012 Podcast Awards -
(November 1st-15th 11:59PM Eastern Time (North America))

Calling all Civilization series fans: between November 1st-15th (11:59PM Eastern Time (North America)), your daily vote for PolyCast in the "Best Produced" category for the 2012 Podcast Awards is requested. This successful nomination to the slate, announced yesterday, was made possible thanks to the response to the call out earlier this month to do so. Whether you availed yourself of that opportunity or not, now is the time to mark your calendars to contribute to the next phase of this process.

PolyCast, a bi-weekly audio podcast giving the Civ community an interactive voice on game strategy, is one of just 205 shows successfully nominated out of more than 5,000 podcasts, almost triple the number from last year; the total number of nominations cast exceeded 11 million. For complete details on the voting process, see the rules. Keep on Civ'in!
