  • GalCiv2: Star Name Mod 2010

While I wait for all the games I bought recently to get properly patched, I went back to GalCiv. Even bought Twilight of the Arnor to make it all new and fresh.

So as always, I ran into my biggest annoyance with GalCiv - the silly star names. And once again, having lost the original version, I built a new "real" star names file. Thought I'd share in case anyone is interested:

    Star Name Mod: download

Just unzip it into the data directory for the version you are playing - might want to back up the old one first:

    DL: \Stardock Games\GalCiv2\Data\English
    DA: \Stardock Games\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar\Data\English
    TA: \Stardock Games\GalCiv2\Twilight\Data\English

Sample star names from my list:

    Phi Velorum
    Kappa Arae
    Mu Ophiuchi
    Iota Cephei
    L1154 29
    I Hydrae
    33 Lambda Ursae Majoris
    L480 69
    DM+59 1915B
    Sigma Ophiuchi
    4 Psi Pegasi
    Beta Scorpii
    Unukalhai
    Kappa Telescopii
    Eta Aurigae
    Mirach
    Omicron Capricorni
    Beta Arietis
    Xi Mensae
    Iota Gruis
    DM-42 5678
    Chi 2 Orionis
    Beta Arae
    Have fun.

nice, didn't know where the file was to change this aspect until I saw this thread. I'm more interested in changing starnames in-game, like you can worldnames.

  • Take-Two Builds 'Civilization' Game for South Korea
    by Ming
From Today's Wall Street Journal By IAN SHERR Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. is developing a new version of "Civilization," one of its most storied franchises, featuring interconnected virtual worlds in which players compete. But it isn't for the U.S., its largest market; this game is being developed for South Korea. The New York company—best known for its "Grand Theft Auto" and "Borderlands" franchises—is the latest of a bevy of large U.S. game companies attempting to embrace the fast-growing Asian markets, where gaming consoles such as Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox and Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 3 barely have a presence. Instead, gamers there typically play on a personal computer at home or in Internet cafes....

  • PolyCast Episode 98: "Meant to Interpret That"
    by DanQ
Context assumed. The ninety-eighth episode of PolyCast, "Meant to Interpret That", features regular co-hosts Daniel "DanQ" Quick and Lisa "qnl" Bang with returning guest co-hosts Michael "emeseles" Lucas-Smith, Peter "Emperor Peter" and Wouter "Locutus" Snijders.

Here is the summery of the topics:

    - 03m53s | News
Civilization developer Firaxis Games has 20 of its employees laid off.
    - 11m41s | Research Lab
Looking for a new way to expand one's empire, and incorporating United Nations peacekeepers in the Civ series.
    - 29m11s | Forum Talk
Should farming be possible on hill tiles.
    - 33m04s | Miscellaneous
Dissecting the announced 'Special Edition' of Civilization V.

    - Intro/Outro | Assorted
Name dropping not needed, a co-host cherry picking from fan-written CivV poems, substantiated -- or just wishful -- thinking based on a photo, call to a convention meet up in Germany, and feigning regret.

PolyCast is a bi-weekly audio production in an ongoing effort to give the Civ community an interactive voice on game strategy; sibling show ModCast focuses on Civ modding and RevCast focuses on Civilization: Revolution.

    As always, enjoy.
