THE AGE OF WAR BEGINS ANEW!
(17 October 2008, 04:37 | Scenario League / Civ2-Creation)

SL forum veteran, Exile has re-released his classic MGE scenario 'Age of War'! This epic allows the player to
take control of an industrial power in 1900 and then play for total dominance of Europe! Minor powers struggle
to survive alongside mighty powerhouses like Russia and Germany!

It features generic units and abstracts many details, but as is usual with Exile's you have the feeling that
there is tons to conquer and achieve - The warmongering 'one more turn' addiction rules the day when playing
'Age of War'! And that is not all! Now Exile has released this improved version, with many overhauls to
graphics and gameplay. AOW now not only looks great, it flow much better! Check out the changes log for
details, as much has been edited.

Check out the thread, download the scenario and give feedback - Recommended to fans of industrial era war! - curtsibling

CTP2:AE REVISION 866 RELEASED
(14 April 2008, 11:31 | CTP2 Source Code Project | 3 comments) Revision 866 of the CtP2:Apolyton Edition playtest has been released in the CtP2 Source Code Project forum thanks to Martin Gühmann.

This latest release features mainly fixes for game play and the AI, but also a new option for modders. Included is a fix for the Great Wall wonder, which now protects the owner from Barbarians, and causes them instead to attack another player.

The release also allows modders for the first time to add new road-like tile improvements alongside existing ones. Allowing for new movement improvements such as highways or stone roads.

You can find the full list of changes since the last revision, and full details on how to install and use this playtest release here. - Maquiladora

FOR THE GLORY OF CHARLEMAGNE!
(26 March 2008, 07:03 | Scenario League / Civ2-Creation | 3 comments) Step into the boots of a great restorer!

Medieval scenario stalwart, Exile has released his latest masterwork - A chronicle covering the era of Charlemagne!
In his own words this veteran creator of such classics as '1870' and 'Age of Crusades' outlines this new CIV2 MGE adventure...

"Consolidating the remnants of Roman Gaul, Italy, Rhaetia, and Noricum, as well as large areas of Germania, the Franks of the 8th
century welded together a significant power base. When the 3rd Carolingian, Charlemagne, came to the throne, the far-reaching changes
made by his forebears had taken strong hold. Fiefs given in reward to liutenants had generated a heavy cavalry force that proved
decisive on the battlefield and the fertile lands of the Frankish realm provided ample sustenance for this new pattern of recruiting
and training to flourish. The new king led the strongest military force on the continent."

"Age of Charlemagne depicts the high tide of the Carolingian Franks. Conventional in most repects, this scenario contains a new
set of Fairline unit graphix, broadly random events, and a number of historical leaders. Designed to be played only as the Franks,
the challenge for players is to follow, more or less, in the footsteps of this great King of the early Middle Ages. While conquest
is essential, for enemies abound, in the end, Charlemagne is widely seen as responsible for the Carolingian Renaissance, the first,
half-successful attempt to reignite the light of knowledge during an age of darkness."

This is a GREAT scenario by one of the community's old-school experts, come and check this out ASAP! - curtsibling

MEDIUM ÆVUM RELEASED!
(17 February 2008, 19:36 | Scenario League / Civ2-Creation | 3 comments) One hundred turns of pure feudalism!

Seasoned knight Eivind IV invites CIV2 MGE players to try out his latest masterwork, Medium Ævum!
This is a crusades epic, and a good one! He outlines the scenario objectives in his own words:

By the close of the eleventh century, Jerusalem had been in Muslim hands for over four hundred years.
In 1095 Pope Urban II launched an unprecedented military campaign to seize it back – a ‘Crusade’ to
purge the Holy Land of ‘the infidel’. Over sixty thousand Christian warriors would journey three
thousand miles and for almost three years to reclaim the Holy City in the name of God.

But their adversaries, the Turkish warlords of the Middle East, would resist them every step of the way!
In a series of epic battles and bloody massacres, tens of thousands would die as the crusaders inched
ever closer towards Jerusalem. The first crusade finally ended in 1099 - with many more to come!

The shadow of war between Christians and Muslims hang over us today, but it is a war that began nearly
a thousand years ago. This clash of civilisations, were what characterised the Middle Ages (Medium Ævum).

Playtests are underway at the moment - It is a very nice-looking scenario, showing what MGE can do!

CIV2 players are strongly encourage to jump into the SL forum and give this one a try! - curtsibling

GOING MEDIEVAL!
(17 February 2008, 19:17 | Scenario League / Civ2-Creation | 7 comments) Exile reviews classic CIV2 Medieval Scenarios!

Veteran CIV2 creator Exile has opened a review workshop in SL forums, with a view to looking at the workings of a series
of great medieval scenarios from the past. The reasons for this activity? The desire to see more middle ages modding!!!

In Exile's own words:

"There are a number of medieval scenarios out there. Some are better than others. Some are great, and some are just short
of being great. All tend to have certain things in common. In this thread, I'll periodically review some of these scenarios.
Their strengths and weaknesses will be noted, known bugs will be spotted (and sometimes fixed w/new files), and general
playability vs. accuracy issues addressed."

"The middle ages scenarios are colorful and yet sometimes difficult, both to play and design. Balancing all the necessary
elements to generate a situation that is both pleasing to the eye, and is fun/challenging is more difficult than it might
seem at first. Many designers have produced medieval scenarios, and some even specialize in the period. Typically, designers
focus on one or more civs, making them as accurate as possible, but leave less-well known civs rudimentary. This is symptomatic;
they were called the dark ages for a reason."

If you are interested in CIV2 scenario designing, and especially if you are looking to create medieval era mods - It
would be most useful to check the thread out. With one of the very best creators in CIV2 reviewing loads of scenarios,
and offering invaluable insights...A golden opportunity to learn some inner secrets of crafting good medieval epics! - curtsibling
