Apolyton Review: First Impressions: Day 3
These impressions are still from my first game. First some notes on comments I recieved about "Day 2":
| Wade disagreed with me on the comment that the civs didnt change easily sides on the later stages of the game. Well that could be true, I just wrote what i experienced in my first game. |
| Philippe wrote to me that garisoning units in conquered cities doesnt help. I'll quote Soren Johnson from our Civ3 AI chat(he should know ;))
The chance of city defections can be lessened by a) troops b) no civil disorder c) we love the king day d) culture and e) distance to respective capitals. e) is especially important.
... however, troops are very effective...as a rule of thumb, one troops disuades one citizen from thinking of defecting...
... defections measure the culture of the two civs in the city itself and as a nation overall |

| Larusso and Mike corrected me on the movepoints info when you right-click on a unit
Activate Veteran (4/4) Archer (2.1.0/1)
The 0/1 in (2.1.0/1) is how many movement points it has remaining out of how many points it has per turn. |
| Citizens in your cities now keep their nationality for a significant time(eventually they are "assimilated").
Their nationality is shown in the city screen from the colored parts of their clothes(in this case the purple hats of these Indians)

One comment only: i wasnt able (yet) to get a screenshot with the following message
We love the Webmaster day celebrated
:D

| The "cow scenario" which can be found in the Art\Civilopedia\Icons folder as menucow.pcx

| Right clicking on an empty tile gives you info about the terrain.
A second right click anywhere on the map to get rid of the popup window would be really nice

| Peace agreements expire after 20 turns. If you sign a new one, you're immediately in war

The pop-ups when a city completes something are still there. The drop down menu though, along with the option to change production by right-clicking on the a city makes me rarely use the city screen

| Yes, the AI makes invasions. I've also seen the AI send units from another island to help the defence on cities I was attacking.
However, I havent seen him unloading 6-8 units together, but that's probably cause I'm playing warlord

Air units have a really wide range(yes, that is what the red grid is). I think it's much bigger than SMAC

| Someone in Firaxis had some strange ideas on how people would expect to see Joan of Arc in modern day clothes... ;)

In the space ship screen, you can directly select which city will build what part. I'm not 100% sure what numbers next the city names but it's too late to check the manual right now :)
Espionage is being conducted through menus and windows. It's certainly faster but i'm not sure if i like it better. I think i'll miss taking my spy
into the heart of the enemy's territory to do hey spy stuff... :)
Btw, the screenshot is "fake", you dont get to see all these windows together, i just combined three images into one
