Apolyton Review: First Impressions: Day 1

Our(or more accurately, MarkG's) first impressions, is just that: first impressions. It's just things that make us go "hmmmm" as we play our first games. Hopefully though they'll be somewhat interesting....
Veii is conquered and I have 1 resister in it. Now it's early in the game and the city is small, but later i'll realise that resiters can be a big problem. New stuff, new tricks needed!

The Romans are in a hard spot and feel ready to talk! Sid(as the diplomacy advisor) is probably the one you'll see more often

Romans are offering a city(although small and recently started) for peace. The advisor is probably the most crucial part of the new diplomacy model. If he werent there to tell me what's more likely to be acceptable, i would be tired from the endless negative responses. Did Firaxians play CTP2? :)

Yes, it's back! Although in the end this wasnt missing from CTP1/2(thanks to TP's mod) it's much better having it from the start. According to the GreatBooks.txt "This Popup should appear once every thousand years in the Ancient and Middle Ages then every 500 years thereafter.". The historian names are Herodotus, Thucydides, Pliny, St. Augustine, Gibbon, Toynbee, Lord McCauley, Livy, Tacitus, The Venerable Bede and Machiavelli.

Your first espionage options can be accessed by right-clicking on your capital, or from the "E" button on the info box on the right. Basically you start with the ability to make embassies, something that costs money. Embassies are required in order to trade with other civs.

The "resource adventure" begins. Some of the units reguires resources. In the... struggle to get these resouces, the easiest case is if the resouces is in your territory: you just make a road to it from the nearest city. Later i ended up fighting for or because of them :)

My catapult aiming to hit Cumae. You need 4-5 of them(generally artillery-type units) to make a difference. The fact that they can captured if they arent guarded adds more thinking to your strategy plans(well, at least mine :))

Cumae has fallen(poor Romans) and the question pop-ups. Do i keep it or do i raze it? Destroying a city doesnt seem to have any negative results(my people complaining or the AI hating me more). I havent seen any upper limit on razing cities either(can i destroy a size 6 city just like that for example?)
