VIKING SCRIBE #83

Restart

I haven't played Civ2 for at least 2 years and I was sooooo out of practice. Even this wasn't a very good game (only, gasp! a 31% score!!, so far), and I'm still playing it, it was the funnest civ game I've ever played.

First, I started of in Warlord mode with villages only barbarianism (curious, I could swear there were 20 barbarians around me once), I was the Indians. I built my cities right away, everytime I got a new city, I would build a settler timed that it would be built when I have it at size 2. I then build a road to my next site. I did this till my 7th city in which I met the zulu. I made peace and all, and then it hit me! Peace sucks! I built up my army, putting 2 legions protecting my cities (luckily on the coast and around a gulf for easier protection), 4 catapults for siege, 5 elephants for assault, 1 horsemen for scouting, and 3 pikemen to protect the wide isthmus that seperates us.

Of course I can't build all those readily with 6 cities, so I gradually built elements, the legions, then the catapults, then the elephants, and then the pikemen (I already had the horseman). I quickly took many of Shaka's cities adding science that I used for making musketeers. I then got to his capital, on a large penninsula we'll get back to in a couple millennia. The siege was bloody on both sides, he had most of his major cities on the other side of that penninsula, so he had many reserves. He also heavily defended Zimbabwe which took me 4 turns, all my elephants, and 2 musketeers to take, in which I got Leonardo's Workshop and Conscription. That is also when I met the Germans we quickly made an alliance (they had some techs I needed) I payed them 50 gold to help out in the war effort, but they didn't even to $#!+!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got so agitated, I was talking to the zulu about rejecting their cease fire, and somehow I said yes and accidentally gave them gunpowder! This prolonged my war which lasted even when I had mobile warfare for at least 50 turns (they destroyed 14 cannon, 5 musketeer, 13 riflemen, 2 alpine troops, 8 cavalry, 2 armor, and 1 ironclad trying to take Mponda and There were still 5 other cities to conquer! At this time, I met the advanced (not in military) celts, aztecs, and persians, we were all in the industrial age (except zulu and persians which were still in the stone age). The persians declared war not knowing I had marines and was building some armor, when me and Theresa destroyed them. The germans took 3 cities and I took 11, making me the largest and most populated. The weird part is, the zulu held out longer (and still are in cunaxa) and like with the zulu, I gave them a military tech, th weird part is that it was amphibious warfare and I still dominated hen they hade marines againts my tanks but the zulu kept coming with musketeers and elephants againts my tanks. I also developed many techs that all the other civs, except the zulu signed non aggression pacts to contain me! The germans even cancelled the alliance!

I then planned ahead, building fleets and making peace, I even built 2 strike forces of 15 armor carried by 2 transports supported by 1 cruiser, 5 destroyers, 2 battleships, and 2 subs to get ready to beat the hell out of the losers who wanted to mess with me. This fleet is currently stationed by zimbabwe and is on haitus. The English then signed an alliance (still on today) and we kicked the aztec's A$$ I didn't take cities but I had a 5 - 0 kill ratio. I then fortified the task force around naples (the aztecs took the romans earlier) and pissed them off to declare another war, which didn't work and I ended up pulling them out to zimbabwe. I then spent some time doing some micro management and trading ending up here. This game is still being played and I'm currently building up forces to attack the celts. I also started this game a couple hours ago.
