The Story of Survival.

I started playing Civ2 at the hardest level (deity) for the first time . I used a map i downloaded which was similar to the world and a little bit up to scale . So there we were , our proud nation had already three cities secured by phalanxes . Our despotist government wasn't the richest , we had an income of about $2 .We had to change that. Luxuries went down to %10 while taxes and science outputs were maxed .This way my nation became a Police state with 5 phalanxes in each city (Five cities by that time) controlling the opposition . It wasn't the nicest way yet it was the only way.

Four hundred years later we had six towns . Our income still wasn't high (monarchic system) which meant we couldn't afford niether city improvements or army . People were still revolting and rebels roamed the country side for the past 200 years (rebels=barbarians) . We never had enough military power (but we were the most advanced nation) . Our troops were inexpierenced ( never could afford barracks) so when i tried to make an army to destroy the rebels i always went bankrupt which left me with one option , wait and defend . My cities were usually well defended but with obsolete troops . Frequent rebel attacks often led to decreasing population and economic instability.

A couple decades later the BIGGEST revolt ever . It counted 17 elephants 2 catapults and 15 legions . I was overwhelmed . It took them 1 turn to wipe out my provincial cities and 2 turns later my capital Guntersbeigen. I was left with one town on an isolated island yet the fall of the capital and the succes of the rebels led the peoples to revolt . Since it was my one and only town and it produced shit i raised the luxury to 40.

I knew what was coming , i knew i wouldn't stand a chance against such a force and i knew that my neighbours wouldn't help me . So with an army of 3 cavaliers and 1 elephant i went into exile in the country I founded . We went south , that area was mainly swamp and was unpopulated . Village by Village more and more people starting following me , some people just gave me technoligies some military help . I had about 10 cavaliers 4 archers and 2 pikemen and 2 settlers . The two settlers founded two cities (i united the different clans together , they became my allies) and the pikemen stayed behind in the cities .By this time another rebel incursion captured my longest living town ( the one on an island) . On my way back to glory we went through some other villages and some people got their spears or whatever and joined my armed forces .

After 150 years in exile i returned to the motherland . I was surprised to see that my cities grew in size ( all of them were 8 ) . With my army i struck the capital . After 3 turns the rebels gave in . On wards to re unite my people I took over the rest of my cities .

The country side was full of bones and arrows , skeletons .My cities population decreased so much that all of them except the capital had a population of six thousand. My country counted 6 cities and 2 colonies . Stability returned slowly . We became a republic . Our income rose greatly and people were happy . Economic and Scientific growth led us to become a stable nation. Our colonies flourished with all sorts of goods and guess what , we could afford an army .

Yet we were still shakey . As usual there were revolts in the countryside , our population still wasn't big and even though i had an army counting 20 units the military service was 12 years . Those were the bad things, the good things were that people knew how to write , brilliant wonders were erected , wise men flourished and we were RICH .

50 years later i had twice more neighbours . My two existing colonies (they were down south) were surrounded by egyptian towns and strategic positions . Back to the capital , on my west mongols & greeks ,on the east Celts . I signed a peace treaty and later an alliance with Cleopatra . She gave me military support while i gave her technology. The Celts and the Mongols were expansionists , so who would they pick on? Yes. My fragile capitalistic state. This led the invaders to sign an alliance with each other . So suddenly , on the year of 300 BC the War of Treason began . The Mongols and Celts attacked my two greates cities Uppsala and Beitersgoven while the egyptians quickly broke the alliance and peace and surrounded my colonies with chariots .

We were rich and weren't wasteful . We produced a pikemen each turn . Yet the war led to economic instability and i had to cancel my plans to build some wonders and city improvements . All my attention was based on military . I really really didn't want to go into exile again .I strengthened my state militarily (from 20 military units to 80). 13 turns later Uppsala fell to the Celts and Beitersgoven to the mongols at the same time . Onward the mongolian invasion to the capital . Soon even that fell and so did the rest .

There was a different story with my colonies . As you know my capital fell and refugees were pouring into the colonized cities ( named Antario & Highland) . Along with the refugees came the remaining armed forces ( the ones that failed to protect the motherland ) .They counted 5 chariots 15 legions and 8 catapults ( I decided to send them to help our two remaining cites defend against the egyptians ) .

*NOTE: all these wars . I had to increase the army , this resulted in cutting the science output . So research stopped .

When the republic fell I decided to turn to communism , I had no choice . My campaign against the egyptians was succesful . In 17 turns i conquered 9 Cities . I went further in to the heart of Egypt , taking over cities . Finally in 1 AD i conquered Thebes . My country counted 43 towns & 190 military units. Egypt was cut in half and though I didn't have any cities in europe , i was master of Africa . The only people who could stop me from taking over the continent completely were Zulu's & Americans . To tell you the truth , conquering was really fun and I would have assimilated everyone on the continent but my budget told me otherwise.

In 133 AD I signed peace treaties with americans, zulus & egyptians ( they still had 19 cities in Madagascar , Italy , South America and Japan !) .I restored Democracy and began rebuilding the war torn province . First of all i renamed on of the greatest cities into New Uppsala and built a palace there . I built roads and railway and wonders and city improvements . After 300 years i had railways , irrigation everywhere . Most my towns had a population of 12 and i had trade routes established EVERYWHERE . My income was really big .Research labs and facilities were opened everywhere. In other words , we were prosperous and mighty for the first time ever .
