The Little Empire That Could

I started out as Amin VIII of the English Empire on World Map Medium size. After quickly building London, my little island was full. After irrigating and building roads on the island, a trireme with an archer and a settler set sail for Sweden. Up there was something like a peninsula with two ways into it. The land was full of forests. But luck was with me, After settling York, I found that there were 4 special resources in the range of that city. After creating plains out of some of the forests, York and London constructed great wonders of the world.

Quickly, a elephant found the Russian city of Moscow. It attacked and died. I sent hordes of legions and elephants, but somehow Moscow killed them all. Then it built city walls and became nearly invincible. After signing a peace treaty and trading maps, a saw that the Russians had 30 cities compared to my two. Luckily I gained the knowledge of Leadership before them because I had all the science wonders and improvements possible at the time. 9 dragoons attacked Moscow, They killed five musketeers and were about to take the city when enemy reinforcements arrived and defeated my troops. I quickly built city walls and veteran defenders in York. I also built a fortress near York with one attacking unit in it. When hordes of Russian troops arrived, they had to wait a turn before attacking because they just entered a forest. The stacked units would be destroyed by the units in the fortress.

For 1000 years the Russians continually attacked York, with no success. Hundreds of cannons, dragoons and calvary perished compared to my occasional musketeer. Then a peace treaty was signed. Since I still only had 2 cities, a caravel was sent with a settler and two dragoons. First they went to North America. I was surprised to see that the Sioux had Washington and had killed the Americans. They had tons of calvary patrolling the coast. So I went to South America, landed, and attacked a small Aztec city until it was size one but it was destroyed by a barbarian. On to Africa. Only to find more of those dam Russian cities. They must have had 60 cities or more. By this time, the sailors of my republic begged to go home but I pressed on to find Australia uninhabited. Victoria was built on the east coast. Soon three more cities were built, Whaler's Glory, Newcastle, and Miner's Haven. After building many improvements on the terrain, The cities grew very quickly and were only slightly behind York (the new Capital) in Size, Production and Wealth.

After switching the Communism in 1825, I bought the U.N. This stopped another war with the Russians that had been going for 300 years. I quickly signed an alliance with the Sioux. They had roughly 20 cities in North America but all the terrain was covered in railroad, irrigation, mines and farmland. They were way ahead in production, even higher than the Russians who had 70 cities by now. Somehow, I developed mobile warfare before anybody else. I sent a task force of armors and took over the three large Aztec cities and renamed them, Western Fortress, Amazonie and Oil Rig.

In 1856, the colony in Australia built factories and then built an army of 16 tanks. They set sail in two transports heading for Europe. After sailing around the tip of Africa, the transports and supporting destroyers were surrounded by Russian subs. Even Worse, the Russians were almost done researching Mobile Warfare. Luckily I had a cease-fire. I quietly maneuvered around the subs and landed near Moscow in 1868. What a battle. I lost 8 tanks but Moscow fell. Finally, after thousands of years, Moscow was mine. Russian cities in the east became the Chinese. But now, Russian tanks bombarded Moscow. I asked my allies the Sioux to help. They only sent a few tanks, but their huge navy cleared the ocean of Russian subs which allowed reinforcements for Australia to arrive.

Then in 1930, the Manhattan project was built in York. York quickly built 5 nukes, (those four resources helped a lot in production). The new capital of the Russians, Kiev, fell to the English. The Russians split again and their cities in Africa and northern Asia belonged to the Spanish. I allied with the Spanish and it was my allies and I verses the still powerful Russians and Chinese. Hundreds of Nukes were fired, I mean hundreds. Slowly the Russians were pushed back to Siberia. Nukes were fired from Australia at the Chinese capital which was taken be a paratrooper. The Chinese Split and the Babylonians held a single small city in Singapore. Ha! The rebels didn't do very well, considering the Chinese still had 7 cities. Finally, in 1989, the Russian civilization was no more!

After cleaning most of the pollution, I signed peace with everyone and started construction on the first spaceship I had ever made. The game past 2020 but I continued. I launched the Spaceship and it landed in 2067. The game didn't end. So more nukes were built and I wiped out the Babylonians and Chinese. By now, most of the Spanish and Sioux cities had SDI defenses. The Spanish also had a huge airforce and a average land force. The Spanish had Africa and parts of Eastern Asia. I had Europe, part of Asia and my original colonies. The Sioux came knocking on my door, demanding I attack the Spanish and willing to pay 3000 gold. Oh Yah. I declared war and quickly take 5 Spanish cities. Out of nowhere, Hordes of Stealth Bombers and Stealth fighter bombed and took 15 of my cities. Oh crap.

I quickly built and bought Sam Missile Batteries in all my cities. The Spanish Airforce was stopped. Then hordes of orange h owitzers (me) attacked and took all the Spanish cities in Africa except one which the Sioux took. I slowly but steadily took all their cities in Asia. Then I sent 15 spies to try to smuggle Nuclear bombs into the 2 Spanish cities remaining in Asia. The succeeded. In 2096, The Sioux took the Spanish capital in Italy. I now controlled all of Europe, Asia, South America and Africa with the exception of 2 Sioux cities in my territory! I saved the game and attacked the annoying Sioux, who had 3 units running around London for 2 centuries!

I quickly lost Africa and parts of Europe and Asia to hundreds of Sioux ships, air units and land units which had been produced in their 30 cities North America. Each city had all the defense improvements with about 6 units defending it. They closed in on York, my greatest city and nuked Western Fortress in South America, (which was the cash cow of the empire). I quickly bought hordes of howitzers and pushed them back into Africa and Syria. We battled and battled. I wasn't sure if I would be overwhelmed or if I could hold them of. I knew if I could take Africa, I could hold them of with my newly improved navy. More and more troops pushed through Syria and were soon going to fight the Sioux armies in Africa for control of the continent. Surprisingly, the people in my communism didn't cry to much about living conditions, even though I rarely had more than a temple in my cities. Global Warming had occurred once with not much of an effect. But it happened just as my armies were leaving Syria and entering Africa. This time, the whole world was jungle! Both the Sioux cities and mine lost about 15 populati on points each and some continued to decline! Both my armies and especially the Sioux lost many units when they were disbanded automatically. The Sioux had a democracy so it really hurt their troops in Africa although North America was still heavily defended according to my spies reports.

I took part of Northern Africa but I could go no further. Global warming occurred again because neither of us had the manpower to clean the pollution. I saved the game and resigned. I was called Amin the Conqueror with a score of about 1400, I had researched a lot of future tech and had built and conquered a lot of wonders and cities. The funny thing was, I was playing in Prince Level, but it was much harder than most of my games. It was a great game and I wish I still had the files to play it now since I have learned more things about Civ2. My friends also want to play it, but my old computer crashed a few weeks after I resigned and the files were lost.
