VIKING SCRIBE #29

6000-YEAR WAR

A while ago, I had started a new civ game using the world map included in the Civ directory. After much debating, I decided to try out the Celts for the first time, all the while hoping the English weren't my neighbors.

Unfortunetly, they were. I didn't get the expected aggression from the English, however. In fact, we became allies in 3 more turns. A little later, they asked me to declare war against the Persians. 'The Persians?!?' I asked, 'How in the heck did the English meet the Persians?'

I thought, 'Oh, what's the difference?' (My relations with the English had been slipping as of late, and I didn't really want to have to kill my allies.) I declared war. It actually wasn't mutch of a war, seeing as my first sighting of a Persian unit was in the year 1346. I lived for a few thousand years, building the 'Marco Polo Embassy' in my capital, and eventually driving the English off the Isle of Britain, taking their capital (London), and all because because of a petty territorail dispute! ( they insisted on positioning their units near or right next to my city, which is a sure sign of impending attack, not to mention it really bugged me.)

After construction of the wonder, I decided to have a talk with those Persians. In Civ terms, I was still a VERY small nation, having only 5 cities by this time (Hey! You try founding cities by the time almost every space is taken!). They were well defended, however.

The Persians turned me down. That was the way it would go on for the next millenia. I had apologized to the English for kicking their behind all over the place, and accquired a map from them, hoping to see where those nasty Persians were.

In Civ2, you have undoubtedly noticed that some Civs' just play better than others. This was the case here. The English had pretty much filled all of Europe, and were starting some colonies down in Africa, while Spain was primarily forgotten. The Persians had filled Asia almost completely, at least up to the Eastern border of Europe. The Mongols were being whacked by Persia from all sides, so I thought they were dead meat. That was the same case with the Vikings as well. The Japanese, however, had expanded from their small isle, to conquer all of the Americas.

I had made peace with every other Civ except Persia: Mongols, Vikings, Japanese, and the English.

Finally, the aggression began. In the year of our lord 1944 -what a coincedence!- the Persians had finally made a hole through the Eastern European border, and straight into my face. It looked like the fighting was about to begin.

Using newly accquired Trondheim as a military base, I managed to heavily fortify the city, and thus have it take the brunt of the aggression. I had started colonies in Greenland, and was planning on expanding on into Northern Canada.

Perhaps it is time to explain my technologies. I was the man! I had the most techs, with the Persians and the Japanese in close second. My city, Cardiff, was the top city ni the world, with many wonders, and also being the largest.

Suddenly, a large task-force of Japanese landed on my home island, moved, and fortified themselves right next to my capital!! I insisted on meeting with their leader, who refused. The citizens in my now huge city of London were now starving! Hoping to wait out the storm, I fortified more units along the coasts hoping to protect them. Another task force sent, and northern England was cut off from all of my other cities. Things began to look very grim. Then it got worse. A HUGE armada sailed into my waters, about 5 battleships, 7 cruisers, and 3 destroyers, along with untold numbers of subs poised themselves in the English channel. I was in big trouble if I didn't act fast.

The attack came without warning. Battleship after battleship slammed into my coastal fortress in London, nearly, but not quite, destroying it. I sent some cruisers into the battle from the cities on greenland, and managed to down most of their ships in the channel. I quickly expelled their remaining units, and sent some reinforcements to my cities on Greenland.

One city, Armagh, was continually being threatened to be taken over, but managed to stay together. At long last, after wasting 23 battleships, the Japanese wanted peace. I knew that that peace agreement would soon fade, but not for a long time. On to the Persians...

In the year 2008, the persian leader met with me, and demanded a tribute, which I gave. Peace reigned supreme after 6000 years of war.
