VIKING SCRIBE #21

This is the story of the almighty American nation, now master of my world. I started with a large world at Warlord level, rampaging hoards, and only a medium sized amount of continent size landmass. As the years pass and the game progresses, I made peace with all seven rivals in the world.

I am not a warmongerer and feel that space colonization is the only true way to win the game. However, I was dismayed to find five out of six rivals were notoriously militaristic, such as the Mongols.

However, as time passed, my power soared, & the other nations naturally grew jealous and eventually became very uncooperatve. Go figure. I was a democracy by 1500 B.C., had railroads by 1 A.D. and I was off the power chart by 1300 A.D. with a modern military of 350 or so units. Not to mention that I had every single Wonder of the World.

However, because I had been somewhat stingy, with only my allies the Babylonians coming even remotely close in might from my numerous gifts (good allies must be strong)the other rivals decided to take their 'fair' share-all at once. Out of jealousy, they formed a five-way alliance, and all attacked my ally Hamurabi in 1700. Naturally I get drawn into the conflict and send a few armored tanks to clean house, expecting perhaps six or seven units to fight off.

But I had been unaware of their recent buildup of armed forces, due to ignoring my council of advisors for the last few millennia. Instead of a meager squad, I found over thirty Calvary and Rifleman units at the gates of Babylon. Before I knew it, Babylonia was no more, and the victors went about to regroup and distribute their spoils.

Finally I checked the strength of my antagonists, and was naturally surprised. Combined, they were militarily a good match. Each nation had gained 700 years worth of advances in a century, as well as the plundered treasury of Babylon. The Japanese and Zulus would not appear, because of my decision at the game's start.

Finally the fated attack arrived. Right off the bat, I lost the U.N. because I had made the mistake of putting it in a old frontier city.

By now, all 91 of my cities were up to population level 20 or higher, one at level 35, each with maximized production potential. But now, peace was out of the question. My enemies were enraged with my resisting their conquest of Babylon.

To make a long story short, I had to fight the ultimate battle: taking on the world! Because I had little concern for attack earlier, all I had was mostly mechinized infantry. Average military service:1 year. The delay in a orgainized counterattack would cost me eight cities, for now the thirty units were invading my nation! Their strength was in their numbers.

I wound up producing about 90 or so armored tanks, Howitzers, and Stealth Fighters as well as Paratroopers. I was forced to give up all my scientific research for luxuries. Then I let them have it. All the Caravels I had made were now transports, courtesy of Leonardo, so that was no big deal-but no strong navy-now that was a problem.

In the end, the fighting was long and furious, and the alliances fell apart after the Greeks passed into history. Then, divided amongst themselves, the others fell in turn. By 1900, ultimate victory was mine, and I am now undertaking the challenge of rebuilding the war-scarred world.
