"One day there was a link to Apolyton... First I just read the news, but so one day something made me notice the forum. [..] It didn’t take long before I wanted to register to be able to post. [..] I don’t know how long it took, but suddenly I was pointed to the Community forum... That opened my eyes to the entire forum and not just one of the forums. I wanted to be more then an unknown poster in the civ community. I wanted to be connected to something, I wanted to be known in the community".

"I first came to Apolyton in the first weeks of 1999. [..] Although the first 3 years were very exciting and interesting, I personally think the 4th year was the best one yet. Of course it was above all the year of CivIII. [..] But it was also the year Apolyton cut its ties with Gamestats and got its own server... the year all visitor records were broken (over and over again)... and many other interesting and exciting events -- too many to mention".

"It was the worst of times… It was the best of times… [..] As we celebrate the 4th Birthday of Apolyton, there is still some life left in that grand old game called CivII. Who would have thought a game that old could still generate the passion that can be found in the CivII Forums of Apolyton. As we move into the next year, nobody knows for sure what will happen. The release of CivIII: PTW will surely have an impact… We shall just have to wait and see".
