9 Years Celebration
10 Minus 1: An Introduction
I remember being so busy one year that when my birthday came around and I was wished well for it, I did a double-take. Unbelievable. Now that Apolyton Civilization Site's (ACS) ninth birthday is upon us -- July 26th, 2007 -- I feel similarly distracted and spellbound. It has been an incredibly busy month on-site in the spotlight, behind the scenes and in the Civilization community as a whole. What's more is this level of excitement and energy is continuing unabated, outdoing even the hubbub from this time last year.
As a result, we will be rolling out our birthday feature over a period of two weeks as opposed to one or even "the day of". Part of this is that the obligatory open letter from the administration is not here to greet you as you enter this look back over the past twelve months... that's what this brief note is doing! Markos "MarkG" Giannopoulos wrote the first of these three annual letters, and I since until now. Who is writing the ninth, and why they are in a capacity to do so, will become apparent soon.
To kick start our effort in this capacity is "The Year in Headlines", a three-part continuation of a feature that began with this site's first birthday extravaganza. It has been made possible through the labour of ACS staff member Kenneth "Zopperoni" Lim. This is the first year that he put this together, and it came out splendidly if I do say so myself. We also have Sirotnikov to thank for this year's logo, the first he has designed for us. I have nothing but praise for this work as well.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Don't forget to leave your own well wishes for this moment, marking the continuation of the oldest continuously updated Civ fansite in history to date. Whenever and wherever you got on, thanks for being here -- the unforgettable ride continues!
