8 Years Celebration STAFF VIEW: DARKCLOUD
This Year's Highlights (8 of them!)
What made 2005-2006, the 8th year of Apolyton's history, particularly special? Let's see.
* Ages of Man
A
Call to Power II (CTP2) mod designed by a team with the leadership of
stankarp and Hexagonian, Ages of Man "provides a new experience for civ
style gaming. With its addition to Apolyton Civilization Site, the site
continues its dominance of Civilization Gaming Coverage.
* Age of Nations
Under
the direction of DanQ and with filming expertise provided by stankarp,
December 2005 saw the beginning of "[A]n animated episodic adventure
series... AoN is set in the Rise of Nations (RoN) environment, a
Real-Time Strategy (RTS) computer game from developer Big Huge Games
and publisher Microsoft Game Studios. Machinima-driven and
'live-action' complemented action, drama, humour and mystery tell tales
from love to war.
These are the chapters in select stories of societies, of civilizations
– of nations. They document from the humblest beginnings the grandest
uphill struggle of all peoples: to stand the test of time."
* Apolycon
"[T]he
event where you will get the opportunity to meet and talk to industry
experts like Sid Meier (Firaxis / Civilization) and Brian Reynolds (Big
Huge Games / Rise of Nations)".
* Apolyton University
Apolyton University's accomplishments were covered in the print press in the October 2005 edition of Computer Games Magazine
Founded
in 2003, "Apolyton University is a school of strategy, where students
sharpen their Civ3 skills and share their experiences in a series of
thematic games. When playing an Apolyton University game, gaining and
sharing knowledge is more important than getting a high score, a fast
finish, or even winning the game. Participants are encouraged to share
their strategy after the game, and even to try several attempts."

* Civ IV Released! (on October 23, 2005)
Apolyton
managed some awesome coverage of the game, including interviews of
Soren Johnson, exclusive screenshots, analysis, and great information
provided by Locutus, Solver, and the hundreds of others who comprise
this site!
* Galactic Civilizations II Released
And
Apolyton's DanQ has been in a continuous revealing and engaging
conversation with Stardock games owner/founder Brad Wardell about the
game series and the future of Stardock.
* Paddy the Scot becomes the site's first "triple deity."
...
Guess this shows us all how long we've been posting here that someone
was finally able to crack the barrier- or perhaps it just shows us what
a huge spammer Paddy is. You decide.
* Yin Eats A Cardboard box of Civ IV
High production values... high shock values... high humor values...
Yin loses a bet where he says he'll "eat a box of Civ IV if the
dominant strategy for winning the game isn't ICS (Infinite City
Sprawl).) His loss is our gain in a humorous production.
* And many, many others. - Including: * DC managed to reach 10,000 posts
Best Wishes Apolyton!
-DC.
