7 Years Celebration - CHAT TRANSCRIPT Part 2
[ACS_MarkG] 7 is lucky!
[ACS_Solver] It's not 69, Ohm, so it's not a problem :)
*** Kloreep has joined #apolyton
[Ohmie] Only you would think about that, Solvie. ;). If you ask a bunch of people to pick a number between 1 and 10, they often pick 7! That's why it's freaky!
[Maniac] why wearing that could get you some positive attention
[ACS_DanQ] If there are any concernd parents reading this, we are a family-friendly chat. Don't fret!
[ACS_DanQ] Welcome back, Kloreep.
[Kloreep] thanks
[ACS_Solver] Rasbey's coming
[Azazel] lol@t-shirt, btw.
[Azazel] very miminalistic.
[ACS_DanQ] 'k, Solver.
[ACS_Solver] So how do you guys like our new Civ4 section :)?
[ACS_MarkG] there's going be to a more "full" line-up as well (with apolyton written on it and stuff)
*** korn469 has joined #Apolyton
[PeteT] Well, Happy Birthday Dan and Mark. The years seem to be going by faster and faster.
*** Rasbelin has joined #apolyton
[ACS_MarkG] hey korn
[Rasbelin] *cough*
[ACS_MarkG] they sure do pete :D
[ACS_MarkG] hey ras
[korn469] hey Mark!
[ACS_Solver] Korn sighting
[ACS_Solver] hi Ras :)
[korn469] lol
[Rasbelin] Made an exception.
[ACS_DanQ] Hey korn, Rasbey.
[Rasbelin] Hi everyone! :)
[korn469] how are you dan?
[ACS_DanQ] To those just joining us, I'll re-iterate part of my opening remarks...
[korn469] sup everyone
[ACS_DanQ] Markos and I will gladly entertain any questions, particularly those related to Apolyton's operations (duh :)). We do, however, reserve the right to say "no comment" if we deem it necessary. Due to time constraints, we ask that you reserve any 'side conversations' with either of us to emergency matters only during the official run of the chat.
[Azazel] hi korn, Ras.
*** settler has quit IRC (Quit: settler.)
[ACS_DanQ] After the chat, I encourage you to read up on ACS' past year (if you haven't already done so) by reading my column marking the occassion, accessible from
[ACS_DanQ] http://apolyton.net/misc/column
[ACS_DanQ] Thanks again to everyone for being now.
[ACS_DanQ] Oy...
[ACS_DanQ] "... for being here."
[Kloreep] I have a question
[ACS_DanQ] I'm fine thanks, korn.
[Rasbelin] Also remember to read all The Column writings from the past by me. :cute:
[ACS_DanQ] Yes Kloreep?
[korn469] that's good dan :)
[ACS_DanQ] How are you?
[Kloreep] Actually, I should go look around the AC forum before asking this, I'm sure it's been answered... but I'll ask anyway ;)
[korn469] i'm doing really well
[Kloreep] Is the Column going to become more frequent, or is there just a lack of contributors?
[ACS_DanQ] Lack of contributors.
[Maniac] Well I have written something regarding SMAC
[Maniac] though of course that would only interest SMAC people
[ACS_DanQ] Back in 'the day', Markos and I took turns writing one every week but in the long run that was neither practical nor achieving the goal of the feature.
[Rasbelin] I have a question: Will the journal thing ever get finished? I acciedentally found it again several weeks back.
[Kloreep] Maniac: What about?
[ACS_DanQ] The forum feature you mean, Rasbey?
[Maniac] just a summary of what affects morale ;-)
[Rasbelin] Yeah.
[PeteT] The Civ4 section is good but we need to do more. We need to be up and running with a modding/customisation section on the day that civ4 comes out.
[PeteT] at the latest
[Kloreep] I've pulled my SMAC CDs out of the closet and given it another go recently. I'd be interested, I'm starting to like the game this time around. :)
[Maniac] :b:
[ACS_Solver] Pete - with what, Python tutorials for instance?
[Azazel] I have a question about the coloumn, too. I've wanted to write this article for ages. It's very general TBS oriented. not esp. civ oriented. is it a good candidate?
[ACS_DanQ] Don't have an answer for you, Rasbey. It's been on the back burner for some time. It may be shelved indefinitely yet.
[ACS_DanQ] Thanks, Pete. As with all ACS sections, they are are a continual work in progress.
[Rasbelin] Okay, no problem.
[PeteT] yeah and probably have the directory set up for the mods that will be forthcoming
[Rasbelin] Not that I blog, but maybe something the DG'ers might like. Or whatever.
[Kloreep] Problem is, the MP DGs are quite secretive
[ACS_DanQ] Indeed, Pete, indeed. We may ask for additional volunteers to help out with the Directory for that purpose -- the same goes for GalCiv2.
[Kloreep] There is still a SP DG, though
[ACS_Solver] Well we have the Apolyton directory for mods
[ACS_Solver] And I'm sure the Civ4 section will have some good modding info regarding XML/Python :)
[ACS_DanQ] Was there every any doubt? :)
[ACS_DanQ] "... ever any doubt? :)"
[Azazel] Dan, what about my question?
[ACS_DanQ] (dang typos)
[ACS_DanQ] Sorry Azazel, missed it in the flurry of discussion. Found it, reviewing it now...
[Azazel] figured out as much. Not a problem. ;)
[ACS_DanQ] We have had columns written in the past that were about general computing, as a matter of fact. I wrote a few (if not most) of those.
[ACS_DanQ] You can find them accessible from the bottom of http://apolyton.net/misc/column
[ACS_DanQ] A week or so ago I reworked the column listing so it would read in reverse chronological order.
[PeteT] I'm a bit worried that we're not keeping up with that other site. We have the expertise here; it's a question of getting people off their butts
[ACS_DanQ] Any other questions I missed? Any new ones?
[ACS_DanQ] How so Pete?
[Rasbelin] Well, it better have, Solver. Like I said months back in the "Is ACS ready for Civ IV?" thread (name was different, but that was the subject), the issue is ACS is gradually losing the momentum to CFC in terms of catching all Civ IV newbies that are new to Civ. CFC has a more younger fashioned community and abit more of an up-to-date feeling sort of. Apolyton being more broad and authorative, not to forget having more old members (in terms
[Rasbelin] of Civ career length).
[Azazel] Thanks, Dan. Those were way before my time.
[ACS_Solver] Look at CtP, Pete, we have always been the home for modding efforts there, I don't see why it should be otherwise now
[ACS_DanQ] You're welcome, Azazel.
[Kloreep] It's not like Apolyton has ever been the foremost civ site out there, IMO.
[ACS_Solver] Ras - CFC is indeed narrow in scope, plus it does not attract as much people who become hardcore civers as maybe casual players, we're definitely still the site for many hardcore fans, but I don't want to turn this into Apolyton vs CFC now
*** mrmitchell has joined #apolyton
[ACS_DanQ] On the Civ4 front, of course we would like ACS to be the be-all-and-end-all for the game. Any Civ4 fansite would.
[ACS_DanQ] Hey mrmitchell.
[Azazel] hi mrmitchell
[ACS_MarkG] hey mrmitchell
[Kloreep] It seems to me CFC has much more Creation type Civ3 stuff than poly
[ACS_Solver] Yeah that's because Civ3 is terrible to mod anyway
