WHAT, WHY
'PC Action' Logo
What: Magazine Article
Why: This German-language publication sported a feature listing the best fan sites for 100 different games. Apolyton Civilization Site was chosen as the best fan site for Civilization II and Civilization: Call to Power. Here is the description (translation courtesy Ata) for each section respectively:

From Greece [and Canada], this English-speaking site provides Civ-fans with information. Now that game-guru Sid Meier works at Firaxis [Games], news from this company is included. For CivII you find lots and lots of stuff.

On this page you discover especially much material, in order to "revalue" Call to Power. New maps, complete scenarios, even whole campaigns can be downloaded. Detailed strategies and tactics to the game by [developer/publisher] Activision included. Particularly interesting: detailed polls reflect the opinion of fans. Can't be done better.

Each fansite in the feature was rated 3/3 stars, and the two ACS sections mentioned both achieved this mark ("Actuality ***; Information ***; Design **; Overview **; Overall ***").

It should also be noted that the now-defunct SidGames took the nod as best Alpha Centauri fansite, another game that Apolyton covers. At the time of the article's writing and publishing, Apolyton was an affiliate of the now-defunct GameStats News Network. Then fellow affiliates Ages of Empire Heaven and Ages of Kings Heaven were awarded similar distinction for the respective games that they cover.
