Information Introduction
Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS) is a website dedicated to continuing complete coverage of the most comprehensive collection of Civilization-related material on the Internet. Founded by series fans Daniel Quick and Markos Giannopoulos on July 26th, 1998 as a merger of their respective Civilization II fansites, it has since proven itself a leading epicenter of activity as a one-stop resource for all things "Civ". The name APOLYTON (ah-poll-eh-ton) means "ultimate" in Greek.
On November 1, 2006, the Quick-Giannopoulos partnership was dissolved with Quick becoming controlling owner and Chief Administrator; long-time Apolyton staff and respected Civ community members Wouter "Locutus" Snijders, Ming and rah became partial co-owners and Co-Administrators. The four now make up ACS' administration in what is internally referred to as the Cabinet. Giannopoulos remains on staff as a technical assistant.
COMPREHENSIVE GAMING COVERAGE
Apolyton's initial gaming coverage consisted of the original Civilization, Civilization II and Civilization: Call to Power all for the PC platform. Since then, the site's coverage has expanded as the respective franchises have grown and related franchises surfaced.
Below is a list of ACS' gaming line-up current as of July 23rd, 2007. The company named after "by" is the game's developer and, in some cases, publisher as well. The dates in each set of brackets indicate roughly or approximately when that game's coverage was officially added to ACS.
- Alpha Centauri by Firaxis Games (January 1999)
- Alternative Civilizations (August 1998)
Generic term for the following freely distributed and fan-driven developments: Clash of Civilizations, Freeciv, Guns, Germs & Steel, Manifest Destiny and The Courts of Candle'Bre

- Rise of Nations by Big Huge Games (March 6th, 2002)
With one exception, all sections were developed in-house from the beginning. The exception is Alpha Centauri whose coverage base came from the Beyond Alpha Centauri fansite by Jason Beaudion which Apolyton absorbed in January 1999. Beaudion left following the transition.
SUPPLEMENTARY GAMING COVERAGE
The following games are provided supplementary coverage on Apolyton. This means that while there is no committed and on-going effort by site staff and administration to cover these titles, dedicated forums have been established and are being maintained. The possibility of comprehensive gaming coverage for each of the titles named below does remain open.
Support for Master of Magic by SimTex in this capacity was dropped on August 20th, 2006.
THE EXTENDED FAMILY
For some of the above and other projects, Apolyton lends a "helping hand" in their development and maturity by offering free hosting and continual community exposure to promising endeavours in their pre-development, post-development and expansion/sequel phases. This hosting includes full-fledged email accounts and dedicated forums as requests and the need demands.
These sites are listed below in alphabetical order. The date(s) in the brackets after each of their names indicates roughly or approximately their hosting/affiliation began with ACS and ended where applicable.
On behalf of the Apolyton Civilization Site staff and administration, thank you for your visit and hope that you will return often. Keep On Civ'in!
