ACS: `10 YEARS OF CONQUERING THE WORLD`
(26 July 2008, 11:38 | About | 74 comments)
Ten years ago today, Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS) began as a joint venture between Daniel "DanQ" Quick and Markos Giannopoulos as a result of the merger of our respective Civilization II (as well as my original Civ) fansites. Says "DanQ":
As ACS` Chief Owner/Administrator now, I am pleased with the work that our staff -- past and present -- and community have accomplished but there is room for improvement and more to do still.
Thanks also to our partners past and present in the gaming industry for their contributions to our endeavour. To those advertisers with whom we have maintained or left on good relations, and those who have been able to directly support the financial operation of this site through means such as our optional subscription service, we say thank you as well. [Birthday logo at right designed by longtime ACS staff member DarkCloud.]
On behalf of the ACS administration of myself, Wouter "Locutus" Snijders, Ming, rah and Solver, and the rest of our staff, I welcome you to leave your supportive and reflective messages about the first decade of this Civ fansite and community. May there be many more to come!
Keep on Civ`in. - DanQ
CIVREV, COL SECTIONS (RE)LAUNCHED
(16 July 2008, 21:27 | About | 2 comments) Under the motto better late than never, we finally launched our Civilization: Revolution site section. It had been under development for a long time but suffered from lack of manpower and focus on development on other parts of the site. The current section is mostly a collection of information already available previously but now collected in one easy-to-find location: an image gallery, info centre, preview, reviews, news and Amazon purchase links.
At the same time we`re relauching our Colonization section in celebration of the recent announcement of a remake of the 1994 game. The old section about the original game is still available as a subsection of the new site, but the focus is now on the upcoming Civilization IV: Colonization with screenshots, information, (p)reviews, files and links, and more to come in the future. - Locutus
10,000+ NEWS ITEMS!
(10 July 2008, 14:39 | About | 4 comments) Just shy of our tenth anniversary and amidst a flurry of Civilization: Revolution review reports, Apolyton reached another milestone: today we posted the 10,000th news item in our history! (And the 10,001st, 10,0002nd, etc -- the news item you`re reading right now is number 10,010.)
This includes all of the news in our current news system (8705 stories), 1012 news items that pre-date our current software and 293 news items from CivGroup News. You can still read most of these stories from either our News Centre or our CivGroup News, with most of the stories that pre-date the current system still being available through our newsletter archive (if you dig deep enough you can may still be able to find them in web-form on our oldest site sections as well).
Our eternal thanks go out to all of our current and past news editors who helped write all these stories, as well as everyone who contributed to our CivGroup news and all those who provided us with tips of news events over the years -- we wouldn`t have gotten this far without your help!
Now for some useless statistics, because we know you all love those (we know we do). Number of news items published by author/category (for current news software):

HELP NEEDED FOR 10TH BIRTHDAY FEATURE!
(5 July 2008, 14:44 | About | 23 comments)
The 10th birthday of Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS) is July 26th, 2008 and your help is greatly needed to celebrate it! We are in need of now only ideas for a greater feature, but also volunteers to put those ideas into practice and available for inclusion in the feature. A logo is also needed.
Therefore, if you have an idea for the feature, are available to assist if not lead the creation of a feature or both, please post your interest, availability and specifics in this thread ASAP! As of this initial post it`s just three weeks away, and it would be ideal to have all items finalized and ready to go a day or two before then.
Without the community`s assistance, the birthday feature for ACS will be far too sparse for marking any of its birthdays let alone this decade milestone. - DanQ
`CIVILIZATION: COLONIZATION` FORUM ADDED
(11 June 2008, 21:41 | About | 4 comments) Towards upholding its policy to comprehensively cover Civilization titles, Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS) is today opening a forum set for Civilization IV: Colonization. Though only a general forum exists at present, it is anticipated that in the closer months to the game`s release it will be accompanied by related forums as has been done for previous Civ games throughout ACS` history.
The reason there is no "4"/"IV" in the title of this forum is to better distinguish it from Civilization IV: though set in CivIV`s universe, this is a stand-alone game and not an expansion. CivIV is not required to play this Colonization sequel. Dale "Dale" Kent, a ACS hosted staff member, has been installed as the forum set`s moderator. Set in the Civilization IV universe, Civ4Col is a stand-alone title that will not require CivIV to play. It is expected to be released sometime this fall. - DanQ
SPORE FORUM OPENED
(13 February 2008, 17:12 | About) Apolyton Civilization Site is glad to announce the opening of its Spore forum. Developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts, Spore is a game that puts you in control of a species throughout its evolution from minor organisms to a spacefaring civilization.
Spore is scheduled for a September 2008 release. - Solver
